It`s time I make a knife for myself! I thought it might be fun to hear what ideas you guys might have as to what I should make. Most of my time is spent in an urban environment, so no big honkin choppers! (although I do have one in the works, but that`s another story ;)). I`ve already picked the handle material (tulipwood), but have not chose a blade style. Help me out!

John

A boot knife!
Something like the upswept model or the clip point you showed us recently, didn't you say you really liked those?, black micarta scales or black horn with hollow pins :)

If you can't decide which one to go with, make one for each boot.

I say a small knife...2 to 2and 1/2 inch blade with a either a trailing point (so you can get alot of belly and make it cut like a larger blade) or a wharnie (sheeple friendly) ..despite the small blade it should have a 3 and 1/2 - 4 inch handle so the o/a length of the knife will be around 6 inches... I think that is a good overall size for urban carry..it would probably go nicely with a pancake style leather pocket sheath.. (Hmmm sound like I thought about something like this before....)

I noticed in the knife combo thread that you weren't carrying one of your own knives. Why don't you adapt the design of your beloved Buck? Make it full tang, flat grind like your others, and give it just enough Stomper style to differentiate it from the Buck. That would be a slick knife.

Now you know it's gonna be a clip point.:D Three inch. 1/8 1095. Boot sheath with clip. Lanyard hole, Hollow pins.

And of course if it turns out that you don't like it,.............;)

i would go with 1/16 inch stock for an around-town type of knife, with either a clip-point spear/kephart point or a strait spine. that way you could use it in the kitchen and do countless other daily chores with it (except pry since it would have such a thin blade)

Hell yea brother.. Now we're talking. But 1/8 might be a little too thick.. unless the scales are Uber thin... that would be :D:D:jerkit::D:jerkit::D

Something small with a nicely shaped handle that fits your hand is my suggestion...The exact shape is a matter of personal opinion I think....

That's a easy one John. One of your beautiful Kepharts or one of youe clip points. In cocobolo of course with about a 3.5 x 1.5 blade in a horizontal sheath. What a cute little burger!

Tulip wood is beautiful stuff. For those who don't know, it's not related to poplar. It's a pink, purple and salmon colored rosewood. Rare and special, like your knife will be.

I'd go for something smallish (3" blade) upswept with a 3/32" thick steel for ease of carry and unobtrusiveness.

make a fixed blade Snubby style knife. Full sized handle, 1-5 - 2" blade (about 1" - 1.25" tall)

Hmmm...I'm for a mini Kephart (shorter blade, full-sized handle) with an exotic wood or stag handle. Ask Ilbruche to make you a one-of-a-kind leather sheath fitted for vertical AND horiznotal carry.

I say change gears (at least from what I've seen of your work..and its fantastic btw) and do a tanto style, fixed blade. I'd say a 4-5 inch blade and use a different type of wood for the bolster.

Sounds cool, what do you think John? ;)
