Just finished the scout woodbadge training program and as a reward I am going to get a Buck custom made ,the problem I have is do I go with the oak or fugi wood scales. seen the fugi wood but have not seen the oak ,wondering if anyone has a oak 110 and if they could post a photo

I don't believe that I have a 110 in oak, but I do have a fixed blade ( bottom knife in picture) with oak handles. Given my choice of the two, I'd go with the Fugi. It appears to have a little "figure" to the grain where the Oak is more straight grained.

Perhaps someone will come along soon with a picture of a 110 for you.

Congratulations on your accomplishment.

How much wood can a Woodbadger chuck if a Woodbadger's name was "Chuck", Chuck?
Cool beans on earning the beads. I did about 25 years in Scouting. Never earned the beads though. Too much work and I'm not a team player.
Left as an Asst District Commissioner after they started letting gals in the Order of the Arrow. Bite me on that one. Ask me how I really feel...

Do you mean "fiji" wood? That's thj\e orange gig. I don't have one, but kind of like it. Makes the knife with NS bolsters look like a 50/50 ice cream bar.

Anyway...here is an oakie. And the other knife is just there as I like to share photos of my herd...

Goose,

I knew we were blood brothers and not just Buck brother. We two Hemingway.
Derby cars are in the paint shop...

I wrote Dave on this and I bet he will get a fugi and oak photo eventually.

Sidecar, Let me suggest to look at the Buck website and go to closeout store and check out the stuff there, the elk scale 118 is good butonly if you aren't sure on the 110. A 110 is a forever knife.

i have several oak 110's they look great!
i dont have the fiji orange..
i dont like it as much as others..
my thoughts are --
get the oak..
has really good looks jest as durable..
walnut is also nice!
koa is tops
like 300 said go the buck site and "build" a knife to see what it looks like
if you get to eagle buck has a 500 jest for eagle scouts jest like gooses!;)
(and seems 300 could get one also...!)
really that knife is NOT available to non scouts now..

I got a bunch of 112's and 110's cant really get the eagle scout knife ,im a leader now in my 40's, but was a trouble maker when I was young got kicked out of the Boy Scouts twice. cant really tell what the wood looks like on their web sight ,did notice if you do the regular and fg models you get two diferent looks at the wood , does anyone have a pic of the koa. was origanaly looking at getting a Elk scale but im a pipe fitter and my knives get abused plus im more of a wood fan

I have another Koa, but can't find the pic. That'll give me a reason to come back to this thread if for nothing else.

Koa is my hands down favorite. Maybe because I grew up in Hawai'i (joined Scouts there in fact) is why I got my first Koa 110...but because of the beauty it exhibits is the real reason I like it now. I have one walnut...nice, but not my favorite. Though I have seen some better looking walnuts than what I seem to have. Top pick is my walnut.

For the buck for a Buck, I would see about getting a 110 Alaskan Guide Stag given the current pricing of the Buck Custom Shop. Your mileage may vary.

Also, I popped in here to let others, that may not know, what an acheivement getting your ticket punched and completed to earn those beads are. I have a lot of respect for that...although I think you Woodies are a stuck up high fulootin' bunch of Scouters that stick together ;) :) I say that only cuz it's true, deserved, and I'm jealous

Again, sincere congratulations and thank you for your continued service to Scouting.

That's cool to know 300Bucks! Scouting was a "major" factor in my life.

The last pinewood derby car I put together was for my step-son in 1984. He was here in Calif and I was TDY on a biz trip in Boston. I got home on race day, but he hadn't done anything with his car. I had a small scrimshaw pen knife I got at a tourist store in Boston...whilttled some of the corners down...he raced it with everyone laughing...and he won.

That was a hoot!!!!

Hey thanks , that koa you have is exactly what im looking for , thats some great looking wood. i'll tell you the truth the ticket wasnt that hard , started and taught some awards programs for the council ,I think the hardest part was getting over my fear of public speaking .if any of you guys are in Scouting I would highly recommend the woodbadge program . if an iliterate tradesman like me can do it anyone should be able to. great program ,I was out of my comfort zone but it was well worth it

My thanks to you, sidecarr, from all the men out here who were made better from efforts of the adults like you in the Scout program. My belief is it still centers around outdoor skills and growth thru achievement and hope it never gets away from that.
A 110 will serve you well.

Man, that koa is gorgeous. I've played the ukulele for about five years now, and koa seems to be the end-all-be-all uke body material. I've been meaning to spring for a koa uke, but I doubt it'll happen any time soon.

My first custom 110 just may have to have koa scales and nickel bolsters.

I have to get the nickle bolsters ,been carrying a 25thy aniversary 110 on and off for the last 21 years ,just cant get used to the brass bolsters ,plus the nickle silver doesnt tarnish

Buckaholic,,, Please tell me this is a misprint: "...after they started letting gals in the Order of the Arrow."
I'm in shock. Shock I tell you, absolute shock. I'm just going to bed, I don't even want any supper.

didnt read that right the first time , I think in my district they dont let any broads in OA at least ive never seen any ,plus I dont think ive met one that could pass the ordeal , At least I dont know any that could keep quiet that long

Get the Oak over the Fiji. Fiji is cool, but the Oak is way cool.

Maybe I will get time to polish up the fiji and get a pic of it tomorrow.
