At 16, if you have free time, I'd really suggest finding odd jobs and saving up for a knife you really want, with good steel, and also getting equipment to sharpen with.

That's my advice, also hang around a quality knife shop, play with different knives, get a feel for what you want.
 
Shanes good at sharpening, he uses a Norton india stone combo. He said he might buy a new one but I think he just needs his cleaned up some.
