God i hate bugs....

Be cool to own bees for the honey, but I just hate bugs lol. Gotta love the bk2 pron

bees are a lot of fun we have 30 active hives here on the farm if you haven't had honey fresh from the hive you haven't lived!

Insects!, I just HATE insects especially spiders
But I'm sure getting fresh honey would be very nice.

damn. Aint the bees supposed to be the start of the apocalypse? Like when they die off, we are dead in under a decade? Keep growing them for heavens sake! cool pics btw. Although going bare handed into a bee hive, even with a bk2, is something i wouldnt wanna do

the hive i was working in was inactive no bees in the boxes but there were quite a few flying around, on our farm we don't use gloves when dealing with active hives it keeps us from being to rough with the hives and keeps the bees from getting worked up but we do wear full protective gear otherwise . i'll post pics of the live hives i work with in a couple days

Keeping bees is definitely on my list but I'd have a hard time doing so where I live now in the woods. I certainly use enough honey with my mead that I really should keep my own hives.....

the hardest part about keeping bees is the education there is a lot of misguiding info out there. if you're interested in keeping bees shoot me an email and i can help you get started with your education.

mmm, raw honey is wonderful

i have a 2.5 lb jar, was about $20? local stuff. full of pollen goodness...

one day, i'd like to have some bees. they're so productive and cute.

Thanks for the offer.... I've studied a lot and really need to do it, that's the next step. I have plenty of theory, just need the practice/experience.... Will hit you up if I have any questions though.

I absolutely agree... raw honey rules. I get it by the gallon (12lb) for about $40....

It's called Colony Collapse Disorder, a disease/virus (not 100% sure which). I'm pretty sure a solution/cure was found though.

Scientifically spiders are not insects (different body anatomy , 8 legs instead of 6, no antennae , etc.) . Cool animals IMHO...

Great thread ! I wonder if there any insect/spider etching on beckers . Should be way cool...

Bug haters. I have no problem with insects. I used to, mostly spiders. I'm one to confront my fears, so, I been getting up close and personal with das arachnid. I still don't like them crawling on me, but I can deal.

At least I don't do the "spider dance" anymore.

I love bees, they are so cool, and having hives is awesome. Thanks for the post brother, very cool stuff.

Do you find that keeping bees is a cost effective way getting your honey? I wonder if it's legal for me to do here in New Orleans. I can't imagine my neighbors would be too happy with me.

Eh, from the hives I've seen kept (my wife's sister has about 8 hives), they don't bother much.

Little known fact about me, a teaspoon of fresh, raw honey a day, keeps my allergies under control.

Large know fact about me, I like to eat.
