Hen and Rooster knives ?

VOSS was the major U. S. importer until WWII cut oiff importers from Germany. No one in this period made better knives. Depending on condition your knife is worth from $100-400. Check Voss values in the Cutting Edge Archives.

Thanks a lot for the info. So this knife predates WWII? That's great to know because when my grandfather gave it to me, he said it may have been one his dad carried but he couldnt remember. His dad died in the 50s, so I'd say it is pretty likely it was my great-grandfather's based on the date of the knife.

Definitely didn't expect it to be worth that much -- good to know. I've been using it as an edc over the past week. I think I'll continue to carry it cuz it seems silly to have a knife and not use it, but I'll definitely not use it for anything heavy duty.

Newb question but could someone please direct me to the Cutting Edge archives? My google searches have turned up a bunch of unrelated sites.

Thanks!

My cousin has a supposed limited edition Hen and Rooster. Supposedly only 200 were made. But I guess the factory forgot to put an edge on the blade before they shipped it. It is literally so dull that I can slam the blade in my hand and it won't even break the skin. I don't know maybe it's part of the limited edition, 200 made with no edge on the blade. Lol

Was cleaning and checking, which led to a web search, Which led me back here.
Hen & Rooster, Bertram Cutlery, 351DS, Soligen, Germany.
Was the most money i ever paid for a knife. So i never used it.
Since the late 90's? it has spent it's life in the packaging i received it with, in a document box.
It is showing some wear from packaging.
Cannot figure out image insertion...yet,
Did find the only web pick i could locate.

An old thread, but it reminded me of my only Bertram Hen and Rooster, it was mint when I acquired it and is still so today as it’s too beautiful to use. The craftsmanship is superb, the build is “delicate”, very thin blades, very highly polished, but superbly done with no rounded edges commonly seen when so polished. It’s a literal mirror, no orange peel look. The blade pull is even and perfect for me, typical of German cutlery, lighter than say GEC.
No gaps, no chipped corners on the scales, everything is flush and perfect. Each time I take it out of the knife roll I lustfully coon finger it, I can’t find a single flaw, if I had to nitpick, I’d say the edge could have been sharper, but the blades are so thin and well ground I bet it cuts well anyway and would be an absolute breeze to put a crisp edge on, no reprofiling needed.

It reminds me of my German eye brand stag stockman in many ways, except a higher tier of quality. The eye brand is no slouch itself mind you. The H&R is just on a different plane of finish.

I own one other H&R, which is obviously made by Boker, a whittler, which shares the same red picked bone as my boker stockman, it’s well made, but pales in comparison to the fit and finish of that older Bertram stockman.
