I had the very bad habit of keeping a slipjoint loose in my toolbag when I was traveling on business. Two of the knives I did this with (Case Amber Bone Stockman CV and Henckels Whittler) lost their shields in the process. I recently contacted these companies and both came through in spades. They sent new shields at no charge.
