Henckles knives - help please

Henckles Four Star

Pros:
Brand Recognition of Henckles name
Maybe sharper out of the box than Wusthof?
You like the handles and feel of the knives.
Lifetime Warranty

Con's
Henckles sells a lot of cheap knives which makes it less exclusive
vs. Wusthof
Less attention to detail in finishing of knives vs. Wusthof (sharper edges on non cutting surfaces and cheaper looking.
Lifetime Warranty

I myself have mostly Wusthof Grand Prix Knives and a few other brands.

It really bothers me that Henckles has so many different price points. The lady next door could have could be cutting on her marble cutting board with her serrated chef knife from a Henckles 14 piece set that cost less than a Four Star paring knife. Snobby opinion I know. ;)

Check out this site for ridiculously low prices on Wusthof

Why does it bother you? Do you define yourself by your possessions?

Let's not get philosophical, now. I agree with iqcomp. It is distressing to think that someone who has no appreciation for the knife as a quality tool can claim to have and use (abuse) the same knife as me. One that I probably paid up to 10X more for than her. One that I know is of higher quality. It hurts the Henckles name to offer the low-end stuff IMO.

Is this elitist? Probably. Who says there's anything wrong with that? (Other than communism)

Why? Does it somehow lessen the value of your tool to you? Your knife still cuts as well as it did before, no matter what the person with the discount set says about theirs.

If I defined myself by my possessions than Henckles would be my choice because the average person has never heard of Wusthof Trident.
If someone asks me about my Wusthof knives and I tell them the brand
I just get a blank stare back. BTW Wusthof and Henckles are average knives when you compare them to what the Japanese are making. I almost bought a Nenox Chef Knife for $350 USD just because I wanted the best not so I could show off. Then I came back to reality. :)

Like I said -- it's because when it comes to my possessions, I am somewhat elitist. I could probably purchase a Camillus EDC for much less than by Sebenza and have both last my whole life as my EDC, and perform in a similar fashion. But I bought my Sebenza b/c I wanted a step above in quality. I would be pretty upset if CRK started making a low-end frame-lock for mass production to be sold in mall stores. Someday undoubtly someone would notice mine and say "Oh, I've got one of those" and be thinking about a totally different knife of a quality I wouldn't dream of paying for. I pride myself on wanting the best, and saving my money for it. I don't want someone looking at me and thinking I don't care.

It's like personal appearance, or that of your home. I don't were jeans with holes in them. I keep my house clean. I shave everyday.

In short, it's a pride thing.

Does this make me shallow? An elitist? Maybe. But all this doesn't mean I would judge others the way I feel I could be judged. If someone else chooses to carry a lower quality knife, dress a certain way, or whatever, so be it. I try not to form too much of an opinion about someone based on their looks or possessions. But not everyone does.

Sorry about the ramble...
