Lots of pictures, so beware.
Well, my wife and I got to go out for another backpacking trip with Boomstick, this time to Henry Coe. First trip with a lot of new gear, new pack for my wife and I, new sleepingbag for the wife, new stove. Don't you love getting new gear?!
Anyways, we had a great time, and this area is absolutely beautiful this time of year. I'm really glad we went now, otherwise the rest of the year the grasses turn yellow, and it gets hot as hell. But, right now, everything is green and the flowers are in full bloom.
We got some fishing in as well, no trout, but the little lake we fished at supposedly has some good bass and panfish. We didn't catch any bass, but we got a few sunfish and a crappy.
Would you believe it? Boomer got ANOTHER tick in his neck this trip?! This guy is a tick magnet!
There were also two emergencies in the park on Sunday. The first was an older couple that sent a distress signal through there SPOT from Coit lake, and an ambulance used some of the old ranch roads/trails to go get them. Heard they were doing fine. Then, nearer the entrance, a bicyclist ate it and broke his hip, had to be air lifted out of there by the CHP chopper. Not everyday you round the bend and there is a helicopter parked on the path! They got the guy out alright, but he didn't sound too good when we passed him and Boomer wished him a get well soon.
We played around making a couple traps, I made a figure 4, and Boomer rigged up a nice snare. Boomer also put together a nice hat band while he waited for us to pack up on Sunday. The new packs did very well, we both were very happy with them, and no sore shoulders, just sore legs. Using the new pocket rocket stove made it nice to have a cup of hot chocolate and dinner ready in just a couple minutes, as apposed to the 10 odd minutes it used to take with my alcohol stove.
So, all in all we had quite the adventure this weekend. Oh, and did I mention, this trail was friggin steep!!! Holy moly my legs are tired. I don't know if any of the pics will do the trail justice but I tried to get some decent pics of the trail.
Well lets start with the flora and fauna, you'll have to excuse some of the poor quality photos as the bobcat was quite a ways away, had to into the digital zoom. Oh, and if you ever want to go turkey hunting take Boomer, he sure can call them in!
