Lots of pictures, so beware.

Well, my wife and I got to go out for another backpacking trip with Boomstick, this time to Henry Coe. First trip with a lot of new gear, new pack for my wife and I, new sleepingbag for the wife, new stove. Don't you love getting new gear?!

Anyways, we had a great time, and this area is absolutely beautiful this time of year. I'm really glad we went now, otherwise the rest of the year the grasses turn yellow, and it gets hot as hell. But, right now, everything is green and the flowers are in full bloom.

We got some fishing in as well, no trout, but the little lake we fished at supposedly has some good bass and panfish. We didn't catch any bass, but we got a few sunfish and a crappy.

Would you believe it? Boomer got ANOTHER tick in his neck this trip?! This guy is a tick magnet!

There were also two emergencies in the park on Sunday. The first was an older couple that sent a distress signal through there SPOT from Coit lake, and an ambulance used some of the old ranch roads/trails to go get them. Heard they were doing fine. Then, nearer the entrance, a bicyclist ate it and broke his hip, had to be air lifted out of there by the CHP chopper. Not everyday you round the bend and there is a helicopter parked on the path! They got the guy out alright, but he didn't sound too good when we passed him and Boomer wished him a get well soon.

We played around making a couple traps, I made a figure 4, and Boomer rigged up a nice snare. Boomer also put together a nice hat band while he waited for us to pack up on Sunday. The new packs did very well, we both were very happy with them, and no sore shoulders, just sore legs. Using the new pocket rocket stove made it nice to have a cup of hot chocolate and dinner ready in just a couple minutes, as apposed to the 10 odd minutes it used to take with my alcohol stove.

So, all in all we had quite the adventure this weekend. Oh, and did I mention, this trail was friggin steep!!! Holy moly my legs are tired. I don't know if any of the pics will do the trail justice but I tried to get some decent pics of the trail.

Well lets start with the flora and fauna, you'll have to excuse some of the poor quality photos as the bobcat was quite a ways away, had to into the digital zoom. Oh, and if you ever want to go turkey hunting take Boomer, he sure can call them in!

Making some traps, check out Boomer's snare! Loop held open by blades of grass tied together.

Unfortunately not everyone had a great weekend. Across to another ridge as we were hiking back Sunday morning, we saw the ambulance trying to get down to Coit lake to pic up that elderly couple. Had to use all of my zoom to get 'm.

Then later on when we were getting closer to the end/start of the trail, we rounded the bend to this. As you can see they parked quite literally on the trail. Pilot was real nice, we chatted for a bit, he took our picture, and filled us in on the poor guy who wrecked his bike. We passed him a little further down the trail.

great stuff Nick.. that is an awesome park man... it's huge... i have spent a lot of time in the backcountry out there...
i was also a vol. park ranger there all through high school, up until a few years after i moved here...

there is also some great fishing spots out there....

Cool pics, especially the bobcat. I know people have seen them around here, but I never have.

Daaaaaammmmn Nick, those are great pictures!!!! Looks like you guys had a great time yet again! Great shots of the bobcat, i've never seen on one before.

Can't wait to get back out :D Though I don't know, with Boomer's second Tick....:P I hate ticks.

Thanks guys.

That is actually the 3rd bobcat I've seen. I witnessed one, snatch up a rabbit, from the window of my grandma's beach house, and another crossed the street right in front of me while on a walk just a few houses down from my other grandparents. But, this is the first time I've been able to photograph one, so I was psyched, even if they didn't turn out that great.

Oh yeah? That would be an awesome job. Wish I had the opportunity to do something like that during the summers when I was a teenager.

Well then, you must share, next time we go back. Perhaps we can get you to come along next time.

No worries, the ticks are so attracted to Boomstick, that they don't even notice you are there...
As soon as you get your school stuff taken care of, we'll have to get you back out again.

Oh man, well definitely I'll give you a buzz next time. I thought your weekends were pretty much tied up do to child sporting activities... Next time though, I'll check to see if you can get away.

P.S. You and the fam. have any plans for memorial day weekend? That is our annual first fishing/camping trip to Wishon.

Thanks for the great pics, we've been there a couple of times, nice country. Sorry your Bud got the tick on him, Lyme disease isn't any fun, hope you got the little bugger off clean!

Joe in Walnut Creek.

Excellent pictures. I bet that crappies tasted pretty darn good!

You guys must've had a blast!

I am so glad that you spotted the bobcat. As a native to the Bay Area, I used to see them all along the peninsula but haven't seen any in 10 years. Been feelin' bad about that.

Great pictures! The fish looks good. It would've been pretty cool if you guys caught something in the snares.

Great looking scenery guys. Good drills with the ticks. Any joy with the traps or snare?

Kind of mixed feelings about people getting CasEvac'd off an area i'm in. Obviously sympathy for the injured party but also reassurance that the emergency services are able to respond to the situation quickly. Guess i'm just thinking i'll be ok if I get injured.

You sure are getting out more now, do I smell some bromance in the air?:D
