Package tracking is a useful tool, but it can drive you nuts. I live 16 miles from Louisville (which has a major UPS hub at the airport) and watch as my packages arrive at the airport, get loaded on a truck and for some reason get driven to Indianapolis for sorting, before they turn around and come back to me. No wonder the post office loses money.

yea, also most of their shipping features are a load of crap.
Delivery confirmation is apparently the mailman confirming that he is in fact holding a package in his hands. Whether he delivers it or not seems to be a separate paid service.
Yeah. My wife and I moved into our new house (in the middle of nowhere) just before Christmas, and we had a helluva time convincing all the companies to leave it on the porch. We'd get voicemails and sticky notes on the door telling us the driver tried but we weren't home. We have jobs! We got to where we were leaving post-its on the door saying..hey, leave it, we'll take our chances.
