Here I sit

Blue Oyster Cult- "Don't Fear the Khukuri". Look closely at any HI Khuk and the second character in the Devangari script looks EXACTLY like the BOC logo with a squiggle under it...

Lion's Roar there is something about the Kingston's Trio and beginners guitar that must be universal. I remember learning, now this is probably not the right title but its all I can remember, "Where have all the flowers gone", and being so proud at 10 years old.

As for me, The Pixies are dead on the drive down, probably Slipknot on the drive back up, and will most likely finish with Thelonious Monk when I need to get some work done tonight.

someone mispells 'beautiful' the way I used to

and I'm old enough not to recognise a single Band Seth mentioned.

I'm ready for the prunes and fiber.

Age has nothing to do with it Munk. I'm a lot older than you, I love prunes and fiber, and I think that those Tool animations of a few years ago were some of the best music videos ever produced.

John Trout and Falling Knife - don't bring it up again please. I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy Monday and have to prepare for it tomorrow!

  :barf:

I love Kate Wolf. It was such a tragedy when she passed so early. Have you heard the tribute album to her? My favorite cut on it is "Here In California" covered by Lucinda Williams.

I love Fairport Convention, and Steeleye Span and all those guys. My favorite thing from any of those guys is Richard Thompson's "Beeswing" Have you heard it?

I love Guy Clark and have seen him many times. He plays in Charleston all the time on the live radio show Mountain Stage, about 45 min from here.

I love Gillian Welch too, and most of the ones you mention. Hey Munk, by the way I finished that CD for you, but after seeing this list I think I'm gonna make you another. I got some other stuff you'd like.

You like John Hartford? What about Del Mc Coury? Have you heard Del's version of Richard Thompson's 52 Vincent? Do you like Peter Rowan? I have seen he and Tony Rice together and seperately many times.

You have good tast in music!

Tool is the only one I know. Love that they are using Alex Grey's artwork. I have always loved his stuff.

Damn you hollow. No, I don't know all the names you mention- but then- I could go on. You and I are on opposite regions of the universe with politics- but see and agree on so much else. If you think the creator of farenheit 9-11 deserved an award- as you said- I'll try hard and convince the revolutionary council after the Fall that your life be spared.

It'll be tough, but if you scream; Harmonica Smith, I think we can spare your life.

It is real hard to find anyone who has heard
Fairport Convention- the British Jefferson Airplane
I have all the Thompson I can afford. His guitar ought to be required study in Class.

someone did a version of the 52 Vincent? People always do Thompson songs and make money. How could anyone improve upon his version of that great song?

What's that song about the ride on the Carnival; wheel of Death? some punk band did that.

Did you ever hear Sandy Denny's collected anthology? Blackburn water side was a number I disantly recall- probably got the name slightly butchered.

If you don't have MAry McCaslin get some early stuff.

munk

I remember Fairport Convention...well...some of it. I suffered a lot of short term memory loss back then. Most of the rest as well...well...sort of.

To make up for my embarassment on another thread, I'll say that I'm listening to Dune. :p

I don't have Sandy Denny's anthology but do have one album by her.

Del Mc Coury, probably one of the top 10 greatest bluegrass bands ever alive did a cover of the 52 Vincent, and yes, I'd say it matches Richard Thompsons.

Nanci Griffith, another fave of mine did a cover of Wall of Death too, but I don't think it's as good as the original.

I have a bunch of Mary Mc Caslin I taped off the radio.

Even better than Fairport Convention (IMO) was Pentangle. I love John Renbourne and I think his John Renborne Group with Jaquie Mc Shee from Pentangle is as good or better than Pentangle even. I have seen Renbourne twice. Speaking of the Airplane, Jorma Kaukonen has a farm in OH and we get to see him every few years.

Here's a link to the concerts on the ranch. I am going to the one with Chris Smither. I love him. Will also go to see Cephas and Wiggins. They are as good (or better) than Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee if you know who they are. I have seen C&W like 3 or 4 times and they always ROCK!

Munk,

If you like that sort of music tune into Mountain Stage. It is a live radio show put out from Charleston WV. I can't tell you how many great performances I have seen on there.

A couple years ago we went to see someone. Well there was this girl on the show nobody had heard of before. She just had the most beautiful voice and arrangements and after the show all we could talk about was not the person we had gone to see, but how good this new person was. About six months later Nora Jones started getting the attention she deserved.

Anyway save this schedule and listen to it tomorrow if you can get any of these stations:

Butte KAPC 91.3 FM Mon 7:30 pm
Great Falls KGPR 89.9 FM Mon 7:30 pm
Hamilton KUFN 91.1 FM Mon 7:30 pm
Helena KUHM 91.7 FM Mon 7:30 pm
Kalispell KUKL 89.9 FM Mon 7:30 pm
Missoula KUFM 89.1 FM Mon 7:30 pm
