Schrade set

This is nice. It's the kinda limited edition set that I like. Would be hard to keep it in the display case and not slip both pieces on my belt for a jaunt into the woods though. I won't bid on it, but I do like it.

Those are nice , any woodsman would be proud ! I have never owned either of those , :grumpy: but I have had a OLD TIMER lockback with Delrin scales that was a good knife. One of my favorite knives is my SCHRADE 165 Deerhunter. I like it so mush I want to get another one just in case. :p

Hey Phil, how's it goin'?

That is pretty cool. They do look like users :)

He says the fixed blade (isn't that a Golden Spike?) is stag handled....but it looks like Staglon to me. What do you think? I guess it COULD be a stag handle. Probably not buffalo horn. :D
Nice display case as well.

Bill

The spike´s handle looks like staglon to me too, I compared it with pictures of others found in the web and they are quite similar, still a very nice set, like many other Schrades, a couple of Classic knives.

IMHO it hasn´t gone high on the bidding, just out of curiosity I´ll check back to see for how much it goes, may be a good deal for the winner.

Don,
Do you have any problems getting sets like these shipped to Mexico?

The Spike looks like Stagalon to me. The LB7 is also a great knife. Lockbacks and toothpicks being my particular favorites.

Have a great weekend!

Larry

Hi guys... what are there every day on Ebay, about 500 items under 'Schrade'? But I liked this set. Would be a great gift for the hunter. And I always find the private issue limited editions interesting. Sure, staglon handles.

Hope everyone is well and haven't cut themselves lately. For some strange reason the other day, I ran my finger down the serrated edge (as opposed to the saw blade edge it also has) of my new DBL survival knife. Cuts like a brand new razor blade!

It seems my step brother is being sent to Iraq in the next few months. I'm going to pick out a good one for him to take along.

My best to all of you.... Our LT must be on the road in this new RV, wearing his classy derby with the cool hatband, earning a little pocket money at the gambling tables. We wish him luck, of course.

More Schrades on ebay... no wonder my own knives aren't selling very well! Look what the competition is up to!:

Phil,
I'm pretty sure if you post the picture that Larry took, you'll get some offers.....

At least for your margarita drinking shirt! :D

PS...
Nice toothpick here....#2243016100
whooopaa is Chris Bostwick, knifemaker

We love Schrades!!!

Took me a few minutes to find the knife in the ad! Had to enlarge the picture a few times. Do go an look at the other auctions being offered by this seller.
I wonder if Phil's picture and a few ping pongs would bring in a few bids especially if we post a few of the stories about them.
Have a great weekend.
Larry

Thanks for the tip on the nice toothpick, Bill. But if I can't pay, I can't play, and thanks to over the top tactics like using babes in advertising, my ebay sales are tanking!

I do have one of those by S&M in old Mastodon Ivory, with a mother of pearl shield. You guys know I am a sucker for MOP. And I didn't know that was Bostwick's ebay ID.

Phil

Lots of E-Bay adds are adding some eye-candy to their listings. Don't make the items any cheaper, though, but it makes browsing a little more fun :D

Phil, hope everything goes well with your step-brother. Iraq would suck right now.

Hi I am back. The 153 in the pic is a goldspike pattern and is in staglon which is the normal or usual material you will find them in. Although as with most of there patterns since the middle 80tys you will find limited editions in real stag. LT

Real stag..yep, keep it in the case. But Staglon, that set should be on a hunters belt, not on the wall. I think it was LT that made a post once about what a terrific thing the fine delrin was when it came out. Didn't need any great care, you could drop it and it wouldn't crack (of course sometimes stag will crack in any event). Well, the knives went at an ok price, I guess. I did like it.
Phil

I showed you a knife.. a buck Barlow over in the Buck forum. I have been waiting for Joe Houser to make a comment on my guess that the knife was made by Camillus. Or, I wonder, does Schrade do contract work for Buck?
Phil

I saw it.VERY nice! Wish I had one. A barlow that is. Would not have to be a BUCK. What got me to ask was that I saw a Buck barlow for sale on ebay with black scales and was wondering if it was for real. Thanks for posting the pic and sorry I didn't get back to you about it sooner. It sliped my mind .

There seems to be a question of what is real Schrade stag and what is staglon. Once you have seen them both it is pretty easy to tell. However I have noticed some sellers claiming that the staglon versions are real stag when they are not. I am including a few pics of various patterns in real Schrade stag. You do not see these often and if you do they are usually marked ( engraved, special shield ect. ) I also included a smoothbone version and whatever else I grabbed quickly to give you an idea. LT

Awe-Some. Thanks for sharing a little bit more.

Is that a LB5 in bone in the center of the display below the 167?

Yes actually there are a couple of LB-5 models in that group and one similiar pattern that is gold etched. It is a shame that some people sell these and make false claims I truly believe that in most cases they just do not know the difference. It is no big deal but as a buyer it would aggravate me. Of course I as a buyer should know the difference. I have been away on an unpleasant duty and it is good to be back at least for a few days. I read somewhere in trying to catch up that there was a question as to whether or not Schrade made contract knives for Buck at any time. I believe the answer is yes however in this case I just remember the question in passing and do not know which knife was being referred to. I hope you are all fine. Tex I realize that you would want the honor of giving the knife to your brother for his time of tour however if you should so choose please let me know and It would be my pleasure to donate something suitable. Since I cannot be there it would be nice to help one way or another. A few years ago I was at a show in Philly that I was doing ( as a consultant ) for Schrade and a fellow came up with a knife that his son had taken from an Afgan while he was on duty. I gave him a knife so that he could retire the captured one. Which by the way the Afgan no longer would ever have a use for again. May your brothers hand be steady and his determination be as strong and true as AMERICAN STEEL. LT

Those stag Schrades are real beauties, LT!

Also, that's a very nice offer for Phil's brother! You really are a hell of a good guy!

Thanks I will donate 100 of them if they will let me go with them. Who knows, I am looking into the civilian thing. It seems that right at the moment recruitment for those jobs is down. It is perfect timing for me I took the job in correction right after Attica. It was the same sort of thing. I sure would hate to die in bed. especially in bed alone. LT

Strangly enough an old friend of mine from my ping pong days just sent me the following email since it is so appropriate I thought I would pass it on. I better stop playing poker for awhile he is the second guy today to read my mind. I guess I am getting to easy to figure out.

Sending Old Men To War

If I could, I'd enlist today and help my country track down those responsible for killing thousands of innocent people in New York City and Washington, DC But, I'm over 50 now and the Armed Forces say I'm too old to track down terrorists. You can't be older than 35 to join the military. They've got the whole thing backwards. Instead of sending 18-year-olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys.

You shouldn't be able to join until you're at least 35. For starters:

Researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more that 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. If we can't kill the enemy we'll complain them into submission. "My back hurts!" "I'm hungry!" "Where's the remote control?"

An 18-year-old hasn't had a legal beer yet and you shouldn't go to war until you're at least old enough to legally drink. An average old guy, on the other hand, has consumed 126,000 gallons of beer by the time he's 35 and a jaunt through the desert heat with a backpack and M-60 would do wonders for the old beer belly.

An 18-year-old doesn't like to get up before 10 a.m. Old guys get up early every morning to pee.

If old guys are captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd probably forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would actually be easier for old guys. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we actually like soft food. We've also developed a deep appreciation for guns and rifles. We like them almost better than naps.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I've been in combat and didn't see a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training. I can hear the Drill Sergeant now, "Get down and give me...er...one."

And the running part is kind of a waste of energy. I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to actually carry on a conversation, and to wear pants without the top of his butt crack showing and his boxer shorts sticking out. He's still hasn't figured out that a pierced tongue catches food particles, and that a 400-watt speaker in the back seat of a Honda Accord can rupture an eardrum. All great reasons to keep our sons at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off to possible death.

Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten cowards who attacked our hearts on September 11. The last thing the enemy would want to see right now is a couple of million old farts with attitudes.

Share this with your senior friends (It's purposely in big type for us old guys...) LT
