Here is Edd's double edged khukuri with the handle guard. It was executed by Sanu and he was faithful to the wood model about 95%. I send instructions to cut down on the size of the brass guard and he did that just fine as you can see.

This rig rates a 10 out of 10. It is about 20.5 inches overall, 1/2 inch max. thickness, 2.25" wide and weighs a very hefty 3.75 pounds. The fit is excellent and the finish is magic stone mirror. Hardness of BOTH edges is 59 to 60 Rc. Karda and chakma are tools unto themselves. The scabbard is excellent done and tooled by the sarki with no name and the frog is the 100 year HI superfrog.

This one belongs to Edd. I would suggest that any future models be thinned down to 3/8 of an inch to help get the weight down by a pound or so. But we have some swingers out there who can handle this knife if you'll forgive the vernacular.

So, where's Edd? If he doesn't show up we will sell this one off for $195 delivered to your door and that will be the price for any sign ups.

Why do I think of Picasso's "Guernica"? That isn't a slam of it, just that it's some surrealistic to me, at this point. Maybe I'll be able tomorrow before my mind takes the long lunch break ( the rest of the day ) off.

I'll pass ... but I'm wondering, if, for safety's sake, you put your hand on top of the scabbard to draw the normal single edge variety, where do you put your hand to draw this one?

I have to pass too. Too many safety issues. How do you resheath without looking with this?

It does look interesting though. :-)

From an aesthetic (correct spelling?) point of view is quite striking. Somehow, in the way it relates to the Khukri, it reminds me of those laser guns as shown in stars wars and similar movies, in the way they relate to the Mauser 96. Also It could be one of those fancy knives out of some fantasy movies or a mortal combat videogame.
My question is : can we really improve design wise something that have been around for several hundreds years? It sounds like trying to change the design of something as basic and perfect as the wheel.

That came out better than I'd thought it would ... it has a weird kind of beauty of its own. There are people who would like that knife a lot -- but as a rule I think those people are unlikely to be found on the HI forum; it's a different kind of taste....

As I recall Edd was all pumped up about this idea -- has he disappeared from the net? Did you lose his email address with your computer problems, Bill? If Edd's really disappeared I think if you post a pic on the "Knives for Sale: Dealers" forum you'll have no trouble finding a buyer -- in fact, maybe you should post a pic there either way to solicit orders. I think there's a market for this knife ... just not here.

P.S. Aesthetics and esthetics are both correct. There are a few other English words with more than one correct spelling ... we only do it to confuse foreigners, of course....

Hmmmm....Very interesting khukuri concept. As for safety of draw, holding it at the frog with fingers as shown by Uncle Bill in the Safety Thread, would seem to be the safest way possible to sheath this khuk variant. One would still need to be careful of slicing through the scabbard instead of just pushing it in....

Hmm... Has it found a home yet? There are many strange, but beautiful things in this world... Ah, which one this is I couldn,t say. Perhaps it's easier to say it has a strange beauty...???

May your dreams live

That's some serious brass.

If they can do that, why won't they give us thicker brass buttcaps?

Wow , It looks great ! I haven't disapeared, just had to take care of some personal buisness for a while .
As too looks , I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It's heavier than I wanted , but that was something that was up to the kami. The finnish looks great. I'll send the money order by monday , thanks.

Edd, I hope that you're a very strong man, because I don't see how your going to do any backcuts with a 3.75 pound knife

I always thought that brass was too malleable to be used as a guard. Am I mistaken?

I think it's an interesting concept... but not for me

My main interest in getting this knife was the process of making the wooden model , and having a custom knife made of my desighn. I plan on putting it up on the wall for display.
It was also desighned more as a weapon than as a utility khuk . If you ever handle REAL swords , the hand forged combat ready type , then anything under 5 lbs isn't too bad. Pick up a broadsword and you will think 3 1/2 lbs is a kitchen knife .

Edd, I'll ship the knife today or tomorrow. Good to see you back. It is very, very close to the wood model. We have problems visualizing and "feeling" the difference between weight of wood and steel. Cutting the thickness down to 3/8 which is PLENTY would save us about a pound.

If anybody wants to post this pix somewhere else just to see if there are any takers, feel free. I almost never visit or post in any other forums -- not enough time.

Interesting Khukuri Uncle. I was wondering how the Kamis did the heat treatment on the blade? Did they do a normal single edge hardening or a double? I think a 20" Kuma Kobra would be an awesome fighter with a double edge! No guards though.
