Here is the AK Bowie we were looking for. A winner!

Could it possibly be...a Japanese-style sword?

I played with this knife a little before I sent it on to Yvsa and I was really impressed with the feel. It just didn't feel like 2 and a quarter pounds. I thought the balance was very good. The kamis varied some from the design in that they tapered the tang down towards the end and I am very glad they did. I think that improved the balance. If they had stuck with the 1/2 inch thick tang I don't believe the knife would feel so good in the hand.

I am guessing Yvsa is going to like this knife a lot but we will wait and get his expert opinion on it.

Cobalt has a credit coming for the sex screws he sent which were never used and are now lost. I think the kamis did not trust them.
And, we will give him a discount in addition to the credit in appreciation of his design effort.

Uncle did you get any feedback from Gelbu about the design of the Cobalt Special and what the kamis thought about it?

Yvsa, if you look at the pix of some of those old weapons you'll see a knife with a profile not so different from our AK Bowie. I don't think the kamis were at all surprised at our design. But, if I can remember I'll ask Gelbu what comments the kamis had, if any.

I think you are going to be pretty pleased with this knife but I've guessed wrong before.

Khukuri FAQ

I posted the pic and specs in the general forum calling it "The Toughest Knife." Some people have been posting pics of other monstrous knives in that thread -- I think the AK Bowie has them all beat so far, but it's interesting. Now I've posted a link in the Shop Talk forum, challenging knifemakers who've ground out monstrosities to enter them in the contest, so there might be some more entries coming soon.

I seldom get outside this forum but I took a look and it's an interesting thread, Cougar.

I got email from Gelbu and the second AK Bowie (Gelbu spells it Bowee) is in the air. By rights it should go to Cobalt but I just got email from him this AM and it is going to be a month before he gets settled in so I guess it will go to the next guy on the wait list. I don't know who that is off the top of my head.
