Here one day, gone the next GAW in memory of a short friendship

Im sorry to hear about your new friend Sam. I offer my condolences. I was really excited and moved to read your first post about how you met this man and yalls conversation. People like him truly show the generosity of humans and how wonderful we can be. I wish we could have heard many more stories between yall two but it just goes to show you how short life is. But if you think about it you impacted this mans life as he did yours. Hold on to this knife and use it well. I am sorry again!

A joke then,,,...Two fish are swimming along, when the first one crashes -head first into a large concrete wall.. First fish looks back at second fish and says " Dam"..

Very Sorry for your loss.. gettin older, losing friends, losing parents, life just ain't for sissies.

Be glad you had the encounter at all..

I'm happy you were able to connect with another person on a level so deep so soon, as well as my apologies for it being taken away so prematurely.

I'm in, I would be honored to carry a knife that represents a connection as such.

Sam, I am sorry to read of the passing of Henry. This thread led me to your previous one, with the wonderful story of how you met him. It is a great tale and rings true in many ways.

I'm sure that Tinker (which is one of my favorite SAKs) will be something you treasure for a long time.

This is not an entry---let someone else have a crack at that most useful tool.

So things have died down a bit now, I figured I'd draw the GAW, utilising the best random agent I know: my missus, a hat, and some bits of paper!

And the winner is.... *drumroll*

Hale Storm! Congrats mate, pm inbound.

THANK YOU. Here is my PM response.

WOW! THANK YOU THANK YOU. I've never won a GAW before. How exciting to win from such a touching and powerful story. I can't wait to give this to some young man in the coming weeks and share the story with him. I know once he hears the story, he'll feel the soul in that knife.

I certainly don't know Henry as well as you did but I have to belive he would be pleased at what you have done. I hope he would be equally pleased at what I will do next.

Thank you again for sharing your story and friendship, and honoring Henry with this gift that will carry it forward

Sam,

I thought your original story about meeting Henry was too good to be true! And when I read your "update", I thought the "ending" was too sad to be true! But I guess Life is an "extreme sport." My sympathies for your loss.

I really admire the spirit of your GAW; what a splendid gesture in memory of Henry! Congratulations to Ronnie for winning the Tinker (IMHO, Henry had great taste, since I carry a Tinker every day :)), and I admire his "pay it forward" plans for the knife.

For what it's worth, here's an apocryphal story (not really a joke) that I thought of when I first read your sad news. Back in the 18th century, there was a famous French mathematician/scientist named Laplace who wrote a masterpiece on celestial mechanics, and presented a copy to Napoleon. Napoleon supposedly said something like, "Monsieur Laplace, I'm told that you've written this large book on the system of the universe without even mentioning its Creator." Laplace replied, "I had no need of that hypothesis." Napoleon later told another eminent French mathematician, Lagrange, about this, and Lagrange replied, "Ah, but it's a fine hypothesis; it explains so many things." For some reason, this story provides some comfort to me in dealing with life's "inexplicable stuff". Of course, YMMV.
