Soooo I have my blade profiled...handle needs some more attention but I figured I would grind the blade first.
I sill be using a grinding jig for the bulk of it...and a file jig to hopefully finish it perfect.
What size hole is standard for the tang...and whats a good source for brass rod?
Its my understanding that you dont fully sharpen the blade until after heat treat.
What thickness am I shooting for before heat treat. Am using 3/16 1095 and a flat grind if that matters.
What grit should I use for the final grind??
If a fella had to pick between hardwood charcoal and a cutting torch for heat treat.....is one better than the other as far as decarborizing??
Seems like I had another question but I cant think of it at the moment.
TIA

Did you read the "stickies" above? Could probably help some.
Frank

I browsed through the heat treat sticky....nothing jumped out at me as far as thickness before heat treat....and what grit to use for the final sharpening.
If its that easy to find maybe you can get me a link.

Well ...................

Size of hole for tang .............whatever size you want , there is no standard , 3mm. , 4mm......8mm ... brass , copper , stainless ,carbon ...tube or solid , pick as you wish or you already have .

Yes , you dont fully sharpen the blade until after heat treat.Safe thickness for me is 0.5mm .

For the final grind you can use whatever grit you want and like ......You can always go higher :)

If I had to pick between hardwood charcoal and a cutting torch for heat treat I will pick this torch.....
