Torching titanium usually results in interesting color patterns, but I was looking for a way to make a consistent color over the entire surface.

This method works well for that.

All you need are some 9v batteries, wire, aluminum foil, a paper towel, and some cola. Aligator clips are helpful but optional. The one thing not explicitly stated in the article is that the negative side goes to the titanium and the positive side goes to the aluminum.

I have a little 12 / 24 VDC power supply that I picked up years ago. I'm with you, Butch, TSP works wonders!!!! I only wish it was a variable to get the rainbowing and different shades in between the two voltages. Guess I could always throw a little circuit on there to vary it....hmmm, actually hadn't given that much thought until now...

Great tip with the cola though!

Did you actualy try it?
Can you predict what colour will come out?
Can you get dark gray?

Yes I have tried it several times. I can accurately predict the colors but dark gray is not one of them. One fresh 9v battery makes yellow/gold, two makes light blue, and three makes deep blue.

This is turning into a good thread, i really like learning about how others are anodizing.

what if you added a AA or 2 in there? would you get something else? you could bump the color up a little more slowly with those, if they had enough current to create the change. What if you tried 4 AA's (6 volts) to start with? If I had some Ti, I'd try it, but I dont.
