This is one from back in the 90s titled "Coyote Poop". :)

It's a collaboration between myself and Craig Bacharach. I forged the blade from my own meteoritic damascus steel. Craig did the handle with no design guidelines from me. The handle is silver, turquoise and some kind of "sacred Indian stone". Hawk, (the collector), who commissioned it, came up with the title, due to the shape and look of the handle. :)

Funny looking piece :D
If I saw it on the net with no caption I would still have guessed is one of yours (the ricasso area)
What's the reason behind that blade shape?

The name, says it all. ;)

On the positive side, the name is very emblematic of the piece and reflects the thoughtful consideration of the artists.

Boy Tai, you really started us off on a tough one. You remind me of my sixth grade teacher. ;) :D

That will no doubt test the new softer more sensitive Garsson approach to knife critique. ;) :D :D

At least he can't say it's a pointy sticky thing.

No offense Tai, thanks for the post.

LOL

I was waiting for someone to say that! :D

Thanks! :)

It's an "herb knife". The little knob on the end of the blade is so hold it with the other hand and rock the blade.

I'm glad you explained the knob-thingy, makes sense now. It's a cool-looking and unique piece. While my tastes tend to run to the more traditional, I absolutely embrace pieces like this wihch demonstrate the diversity within the craft.

i like it too. I work in a kitchen and it would be great for herbs like parsley, etc.

the name? I immediately 'got it' when I saw it.

That makes sense.

I was thinking "what the heck",
now I'm thinking "what a perfect instrument for a specific task".

What a difference a little knowledge can make. :foot: ;)

whimsical but not completely well designed for the task
herbs like being snipped or cut clean
a rocking motion makes short work of chopping but releases the precious juice and bruises
the leaves
I love the knife though it makes you want to pinch the poo

The photo gives me the impression that the blade has a curve to it. Is that an optical illusion? I'd have to hold this one to know how comfortable that poop-like handle would be. I love the pattern on that meteoritic damascus steel.

ya know, as far as an honest critique goes?...

I honestly do not have enough education to contribute anything meaningful to a critique on this piece. Maybe if someone started it up, I could throw an idea or two in.

But this piece is waaaay beyond my ability to see its components and background clearly enough to have any specific ideas to offer by way of critique.

My IMPRESSION is that this is one hell of an imaginative object, and I like it very much. As I do most of the Goos I've seen.

You could have started with something a little easier, you bastid:D
