Well fellow Rat's, here's the big news we've been working on for several months. A collaboration like no other....

RatTail_AD.jpg

These should be on the website by the end of the week and shipping very soon. Everyone at Swamp Rat Knife Works is very excited about this new knife and we are also very happy to be working with Wally. He is a class act and a great knifemaker.

We have sent samples out to a couple of kydex benders so they are set to take sheath orders. Please direct all sheath orders and questions to either:

Very cool! I like the looks of that one. Is the cord wrap coated? And wouldnt that be cool in a horizontal sob sheath?:D Way to go Rat!!!

I'll be there to order!

Add me to the list for two.

This looks like it will be a great little blade for neck or belt carry. (or even pocket?)

Great work Jennifer, Wally, Eric & Rat crew.

I'll pass--Busse already makes a Killer B.

Now about that Control Freak...enough distractions!!! If you're already set up to crank out Bog Dogs then for crying out loud how much more setup can possibly be involved to start making Control Freaks?!? It's the same steel, heat treat, finish, handle...

Hey, wait a minute--I'm starting to sound like a Contr

Busse hasn't made the Killer B for awhile, and this is lots littler. In fact, it'd be neat to have one piggy-backed on a custom Killer B sheath! :)

Okay I know I'm crossing lines here but I gotta give you guys
a big thumbs up on this one!!!! I'll definitely be getting a
few of these for my collection!!!

I'm getting one.

Mini's cool, but this one is sweet. It will match my Besh Mini Spec-1 something fierce.

Hi Guys, I want to thank Eric and Swamp Rat for involving me in a great project. Brian Your sheaths are great.
Cheers, Wally.:D

Questions...

- No sheath comes with the knife?
- Is the cord wrap coated with epoxy?
- If the wrap needs to be redone, where do I send it, and how long will it take?
- Will the Rat Tail be subject to penetrant testing?
- When can I place an order? :)

Thanks,

-jon

Jon,
You are correct, we are selling these without sheaths, so the customer can choose what he wants. The wrap is resin coated to make it durable. Hopefully you won't have any need to have the wrap redone. Wally's wraps are very durable. The website will hopefully be ready to accept orders on these by this weekend. I'll try to update the forums when I know more.

:D:D

Eric,

I already emailed Brian (Oku) and if all goes well, I may have a sheath before a knife. ;)

Get that ordering up! I'll be right on it. :D

About the wrap... I have a Besh Mini Spec-1 with probably a very similar kind of wrap (Mr. Beshara is Mr. Hayes's apprentice) and it has held up through a lot of crap.

The grip is absolutely wonderful in all sorts of material -- dry, wet, even with dishwashing detergent or raw meat. Epoxy/resin coated cord wrap or paracord wrap has got to be my favourite handle material... followed very closely by Respirene-C. ;)

The downside is, of course, that I wouldn't use it for extended cutting or chopping. It grips hard and does a number on your skin after a while.

As for rewrapping... It's when you get lots of seawater, rotten seaweed gunk, and sand into it that it gets a little unhappy with you. (Why an O-1 blade got itself into the ocean is a silly question to ask of a silly person :p )

Stuff cleans out with enough attention, but I'm not sure I'd want to do that too many times. Brent has offered to rewrap it, and I was curious about this baby too.

Thanks for the info. :)
