Here's The SPECIAL OFFER On The Air Bleeder Strop!!!

LOL! :) Only one is for me Hydraulicman. One is for a friend as a b-day gift and the other, well, who knows?

So I could show the one I made... pretty much the same but with an aluminum handle. Went to the thrift store and picked up a wide belt.. straped it on tightened it up... now what compound to use...?

All done with school Jan??
You kidding? :D No seriously, Illinois was only for a year since the government paid for it. Went back home last August to finish up school here. Now I'm all done with classes, starting a 6 month internship on April 4 and then another 6 months of thesis work. So I should be all finished with my degree at around this time next year. After that, maybe I'll try to come back over for a PhD. I can hear Illinois, Stanford, Caltech or Berkeley calling my name  Alright alright, let me dream, ok? LOL
Anyhoo, just today I finished a research project that included an 18 page long formula expression, so I'm pretty pumped about that.
In the meantime, I'm in need of some stropping action. Knife stropping that is!! So what about them Air Bleeders?

Jan, I am sorry we couldn't have touched base while you were here.

Folks this guy doesn't need one of these babies! I bought a 1/4" Desert AS from him that he did on sandpaper if I recall correctly (Jan correct me if I am wrong). This thing will cut you while looking at it. I gave it the old thumb test when I got it and I barely touched it, I mean like a breath could have passed bewtween the edge and my finger and it started to grab me. Thank the good Lord I didn't go at it full bore.

I shudder to think what he could do with one of these bad boys.

Roger that, if I remember correctly the Desert AS was finished on some 2000 grit sandpaper and then stropped on a normal non-treated belt to get rid of whatever burr there might have been. 2000 grit gets you as closed to polished edge as I'd ever care about.
The main reason for the strop for me would be convenience. Sandpaper, no matter what maker, wears out pretty fast. More so on S30V than Infi, but still (yes yes, I have a few Striders, please don't kill me :D ) Plus sandpaper is fairly dirty to work with.
Another big issue with sandpaper and a mousepad is that it is complicated to adjust tension. I usually clamp one end of the sandpaper sheet to the table with a vise, slide the mousepad underneath and start working. If the end of the sandpaper is not clamped down, it tends to curl up under the pressure of the blade and wear away the coating on your blade.
Just some of my personal observations. Fact is that whatever method, only practice gets you where you want to go.

It is basically a loom strop. You can get them from the big shaving sites.
