Hesitating between Blur SG2 and JYDII Ti SG2...

Hello everyone, my first post here :)

The title said everythin... I'm hesitating between the Blur SG2 and the Junkyard Dog II Ti SG2.

I LOVE the handle of the JYD, it's terrific, and it's titanium. But it doesn't have the speedsafe, and I find it a big too big. And I miss the thumb stud.

The Blur has the thumb stud, speedsafe, and is smaller. But it's handle is way less beautifull...

I really don't know which one to choose (don't ask me to take both xD).
People find this JYD to be the sharpest knife they ever had. Blur SG2 is of the same steel: does it cuts as well or not?
Is the JYDII flipper as efficient in stress/critical situations, which is what I like with speedsafe?

Well if french knives aren't that expensive in france, msrp price of kershaws here are.... funny xD (don't expect less than 400$ for this JYDII Ti SG2...). Happy I can buy it on internet... But anyway, is the JYD worth the price difference with blur SG
?
Thank you very much,
Nicolas

Welcome to the forums!
I think you have already answered your own question judging by what you stated above. However, I will try to answer your questions. I have both of these knives.
You don't need a thumbstud if you have the flipper mechanism, and with very little practice, it will open up just as quickly as a Speedsafe model. I don't know what type of stress/critical situations you regularly encounter, but the flipper is quite a bit larger than the thumbstud,so it may be easier to use while in these situations.
I think both handles are good looking in their own way, the JYD II is certainly a more "workhorse" looking type, while the SG2 Blur with it's brown/bronze handle and black inserts look a little dressier to me.

The handles on the Blur are definitely smaller, but the blades are not as different in size as you might think:

Top to bottom there is a slight difference, lengthwise is very similar. The blades are stacked with the spines lined up to illustrate the actual size difference.

I can't tell you to get one or the other, and I understand the price difference for getting overseas. But I got both because I like SG2 from a cutting standpoint, very efficient slicer.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your very complete answer!

I think I'll go with the Blur SG2. Maybe (probably) buy the JYD later if I have the money...

It will serve as an EDC, this one will better fit in my pocket.

Stress situations.. Where I live some people like just agress you with no reason (sweet suburbs...). I have OC spray for self defense but as a firebreather I found that making them understand what could happen to them usually made them run away. You got the idea: show that you could slice them and they won't come back for more after having being sprayed. (oc sprays are not efficient enough...). As I don't always walk with a lit torch and may not be able to play with a manual opening, speedsafe seems a good mean.

But don't worry, I carry a knife for years now and never sliced anyone (except me, but I just meant to cut some branches).

Thank you again,
Nicolas
