I have had bad luck with neck knives and other small fixed blades. They just didn't fit my hand and had an uncomfortable grip, so I have mostly used folders for anything under 4" blade length. I'll admit, I didn't try the Izula. I got a Swamp Warden and sold it. Got a Becker that I never use. But this new H.E.S.T is great. What a cool little survival tool.

And best of all, it fits my XXL hands. This handle is amazingly comfortable and secure. Fit and finish are very good. I'm impressed.

Congrats on the purchase. I had a tough time choosing between the Izula and the HEST but I decided to go with an Izula ... for now. :D

Have you put it through the paces yet?

Does anyone have a good pic of the Izula and the HEST next to each other?

Well, I did use the spike to poke the paracord back through the cord lock. I don't much care for Tek-loks. Too bulky. I'll try it out soon. Sold an expensive Ohio made knife I seldom use and ordered the RC-6 and two more RC-4s. Got a RC-5 inbound. Love the service at KSF. If my daughter in the AF makes flight crew, she'll have a nice selection of RATs to choose from. :D

I thought that the HEST handles were suppose to be changed, identical rounded ends on both sides? that idea came from a Blade forum member who received a HEST from RAT for that idea. What happened with that??

I noticed that the one in the final production picture has rounded ends on the scales, but mine doesn't. Maybe they already had a bunch of these scales make up. I don't know, but it doesn't bother me. Still a good looking little knife to me.

no, I think it was the opposite they were initially rounded on both ends then it was suggested that they be changed to how it is in that pic.

That makes sense. It looks good to me. BTW, this knife came with a very good factory edge. I like it when I get a new knife that doesn't need sharpening. :D

Oh I will somberbear. I have always like 1095 steel and the workmanship on the RCs is first class. They are quite a value for well-designed American made outdoor knives.

One of the first things that I noticed about the HEST is that it has a long handle with lots of room. A great knife!

I had to decide between the izula and the Hest and went w/the izula... for now, but I get paid again next week so I'm sure I'll be expecting a HEST in the mail soon too...

Thanks for the photos, Horn Dog.
I'd pretty much discounted the HEST because of my large hands,
but you've provided a new perspective ;)

Hey mate, is there any way in which you could take a pic of both next to a ruler and or a typical household object such as a paperback book?

PS: Nice pics btw
