ok guys..i havent had any experience with any Fallkniven knives...i have a chance to trade up my HEST for an f1..whats your guys thoughts...should i or shouldn't i is basically what i am getting at...looking for some pros and cons on the F1...thanks fellas.

Keep the HEST. Save for an F1. You won't ever be able to buy a new HEST, they're out of production and will only be more expensive from.

The F1 used to be my go to knife in my camping/hiking trips, and it still is sometimes, being stainless is kind of maintenance free
The F1 is a great knife, at the time I wanted to trade mine for a HEST, but I decided is better to save and get the HEST, while keeping the F1
I wouldn't trade my HEST for an F1 though, I love the shape, size and features of the first
Both are great knives, can't argue with that, but are very different, from steel to concept and design,
hope this pics help

thanks for the comparison pictures jack..yea, i've decided to keep the HEST and hopefully if i get a tax return back im going to buy me an F1..the F1 being stainless is kinda why i am really wanting one..im around water a lot..but i havent had any trouble with my esee's yet and having them out on the ice with me, i will see how the 1095 holds up this spring/summer/fall...thanks again for the advise fellas..

until then maybe there will be a HEST II, stainless :D

now that would be badass..i would jump on that in a heart beat...i actually just got me an Izula 2 in a trade, and i wouldnt mind seeing these izulas offered in a stainless steel..this little knife is a tank...i cant seem to put it down since i got it.

The izzies are great little blades! There is a reason why they have sold so many of them......maybe it's the illicit drugs that ESEE incorporates into their powder coat. hmmmmmmmmm

I love my izzie and use it for everything. There's just something about a fixed blade that lets you know that you can beat on it a bit harder than a folder

I have only one Falkniven, the F1. It's a fine knife, but I like my HEST more. That's not to say that the HEST is better. I must admit, some of my love for the HEST is it's cool factor. It is one of those survival knives that is just short of too gimmicky. The HEST is one of the few multi-function knives to really make it work. The F1 is just another small knife: well built, competent, and practical. The HEST is sexy and I love it! :D

If I could only pick one (between those two), I would take my F1.

For me, it would work better at my intended knife related applications (backpacking, camping, woods-bumbing). Longer blade, insulated handle, stainless (nice for the winter months). I've never needed the additional features the HEST offers. If I lived in the city or someplace those tools would come in handy, my choice might be different.

I think everyone who suggested keep the HEST and save up for an F1 is right on the money though. Both are great knives so choose the one that best suits your needs only if you have to choose. If not, get both.

Keep in mind you will get some biased responses asking this on the ESEE forums.

check out my f1 review video in sweden to see it in action, might give you some insights.
I have no experience with the hest, but have the rc-3 and rc-4 which are about similar in size to the f1. I slightly prefer the f1, but that's just a personal thing. All good knives if you ask me.

I have both; F1 Black Micarta and ESEE-3 Serrated Orange G-10...I got to be honest...I would'nt give up my ESEE-3 for nothin'! It's held an edge better, easier to sharpen, and with the straight up honesty of the makers "Jeff Randall, Mike Perrin, and Rowen" How the Hell could you go wrong? They prove themselves and that's what matters point blank...I rest my case...:-)

i have a Fallkniven S1 and a WM1-3G, i can't fault either of them. i fully intend to add several more Fallknivens to the cutlery cupboard.

the WM1 has also given me something of a tragic addiction to 3" fixed blade knives. i can see a HEST and an Izzy in my future.

seriously, in the kind of rarefied atmosphere at the top end of the production knife scale, where one finds makers like Fallkniven and ESEE, i rekon a blade from either maker would serve you very well for many years.

Wow I heard Fallkniven prices went up but didn't realize how much. I paid $85US for mine back in Feb 2008 and was curious about the current price and am seeing them listed anywhere from $107 to $130 US with the Zytel sheath.
It is a great knife but I agree with the others. Keep your HEST and save for the F1.

$130US? The F1 is worth that and more.

I have to go F1 here and I am a huge ESEE fan, owning three of their great knives. Yes I know they are seperate from RYP now. You can still get the F1for around $100 if you shop around. Its a great knife.

I agree, just didn't realize it was such a big price jump. I guess I got mine at a great price!

hehe, i'm Australian.

the soaring AUD$ has made Fallknivens (and ESEEs for that matter, but i havn't taken that plunge, yet) affordable.

paying US$140 for a knife when we were getting USD$0.65 just wasn't feasable.

while it's at US$1.02 or better to the AUD$, i'll be buying like a loon.
