hello there people,

im in washington dc this week for national police week and the national fallen officers memorial. quite a week, and some real nice ceremonies.

181 law enforcement officers lost their lives while on duty in 2007. there was a candlelight vigil on tuesday and the ceremony with the officers families today at the capitol building. pretty amazing experience.

also my first trip to the east coast. met some great officers from all over the world, saw the sights, and drank too much.

because of the weight limit on luggage, i brought only one busse. the cultie i have been edc'ing.

sadly, i also brought a unique graphic bg42 sebenza, which i lost last night. failry certain i left it in a cab. i had to slide across the seat to exit, and it probably got hooked on a seam. it was my favorite folder, and probably got more use than any other in my collection since i got it. :( oh well, my own fault for not checking my pocket or the seat.

i have some great pics, which i will post this weekend.

good night all, and i hope everyone is having a good week!

Man, that bites losing a great folder! :grumpy: Glad you're okay, and let me say a big "THANK YOU" to you and your brother LEO's for all you do! Hugs, bro! :)

I was wondering about you. Glad you popped up. Sorry about the mishap! Things work out! Laterz. :)

I'd be beating myself up hardcore over losing a sebenza!!!

Aside from that I'm glad you've had a good experience there!

Sounds like you had a great time Mark:thumbup:

That is a bummer about the sebbie though, lost mine a couple of times but was able to find it.
But you are dating the girl in your avatar...so I don't feel to bad for ya:p

Whenever I lost something valued to me,(like fishing poles, tackleboxes, knives)
I try to pass it off by "giving to the gods".;)
Might be a sign of something great coming your way:D
Stay safe in the DC area and chin up!!!

Mark,
I was at the state memorial and it was something. Next year I want to go to DC! Thank you for representing us and honoring our lost bro!!!

Mark,

Sorry to hear about the folder.

Glad you are having a great time in D.C.

God Bless you and all your brothers and sisters for serving the people of this country. May we never forget our fallen heros.

Hey, Mark!

If you're still stuck out in DC, let me know ... I'll buy you a drink of your choice. :D

Just got back myself ...

Sorry to hear about the lost knife...always kills me when I lose a piece of my EDC gear.

Obviously it sucks that LEOs die in the line of duty, but is 181 good? Or bad? I mean compared to recent years. I'm not even sure how many LEOs there are in the US.

wow ...that bites on the sebbie!:( try to put the loss behind you and have a great safe time Mark. take a lot of pic's.

thx for all the nice comments.

im not sure whether it was just why i was there, all the loss suffered by the families and the law enforcement community, but i dont feel terrible about the lost sebbie. perhaps it was just a little perspective.

it is a wonderful knife, beautiful graphic. but i have been so fortunate in my career, life in general, and as ken mentioned, dating a wonderful girl. i have many more fantastic knives, and will continue to purchase more. it is hard to accept the loss of a $500 item, but i guess in the grand scheme i have lost little.

here is a link with the total line of duty deaths by year.

http://www.odmp.org/year.php?year=2008

according to the link, there were 187 deaths in '07, not sure if the numbers at the memorial were incorrect.

other than 2001, in 2007 we lost more law enforcement officers than in any year since 1989.
