Just saw a certain dealer which had the limited edition BM710 in M390 which is now discontinued. Is now coming soon in CPM-M4 with a grey cerakote.Seeing how hard benchmade is running their M4 it should be exciting.

Whered you see that it was m4?

Benchmade thread. (( deal spotting ))

This knife is going on (( deal spotting )) right? Because I can't find it anywhere for preorder. I heard that they should be shipping this month.

There is a small sentence on the retailer's website saying that the M390 is being replaced with the M4, coming soon.

Yup, benchmade had been having some warping issues with m390 and as such went to m4 for the (( deal spotting )) exclusives.

Why the Cerakote? Would have been a no brainer for me. Hope they change their mind. Keep those coatings off my steel. I'm allergic.

Kinda disappointed the M390 variant is being discontinued, was looking forward to purchasing it soon. IMO it's hard finding a axis with a high end stainless that's not OA or auto.

Uh-oh. I just bought the m390 version and I was glad to receive it before I read this. What kind of warping issues exactly and how will this affect me?

None because if it was shipped it wasn't warped

I've gone through a handful of Benchmade's over the years and the only design that seemed noteworthy to me was the 710.

Been holding out for something like this for a while...... hope it isn't prices like their Gold series knives :)

I'm a bit disappointed about the change in steel, as I was planning to purchase a M390 710 very soon... I used up a chunk of my knife budget when I got about 20 knives at the Spyderco Factory Seconds sale a month ago and had to put off purchasing it. Now it looks like I'd have to pay secondary market prices if I want one - and those costs are almost always more than I'm willing to spend. I've got a number of knives in M4 and love the steel, but was looking forward to trying out the M390 in this knife.

I've got a partially serrated 710 in D2 and use it constantly for small landscaping and outdoor work, so I was excited about getting a plain-edge version in M390. I'll still get the M4 version, as it's a great steel and the silver twill G10 sounds very intriguing. Are there any pictures floating around of what it will look like?

I don't think you'll have any problems. I have a couple benchmades in m390 and they're excellent. The issues benchmade was having relate to warping during heat treat. M390 is notoriously difficult to heat treat and my guess is that they were losing too many blades to warping that they just decided to scrap it in favor of m4. Don't worry, any warped blades would have been caught before the knives got out to the public. Enjoy your knife, m390 is some spectacular stuff, you're gonna love it. It just so happens its a bear to heat treat and large production runs have been a headache for benchmade.

Whew thanks for setting my mind at ease. I can't open it until Christmas but I've been thinking about it every day. If I like it I'll have to get the m4 version too! For a knife designed over a decade ago the 710 sure seems to stay very relevant

This M4-710 version was announced last July on the manufacturer's own forum. I have been waiting ever since.
