Hey Bud!!!!

Great knives Charlie and Jack. This one was made in Sheffield by Stanfield, Newbould & Co circa 1845-1852.

Great piece of history. I love it. :)

Thanks, Wazu! I believe that single Spey blades and single Sheepfoot blades were both sold for Budding and Grafting. A single bladed knife was the cheapest you could buy and still get the job done.

The second and fourth knives down are cases in point:

And here are two bone-handled Budding knives, with Ivory Spuds:

I don't think I own any of those, Charlie. Actually, now that I think of it, I own a Schrade with the spud snapped off.

I did want to share this pic, from the Knife museum in Wawarsing. A wonderful all bone example!

Thanks for posting that one Glenn! That and the Ivory "one-piece" of George's in post #9 are interesting pieces of engineering!
I have a couple, and was saving them for later, but what the heck!

The Ivory one has a nicely fitted liner. and the bone one relies on the Bone handle for its structure.

I should have known you would have one of them, Charlie :)

Those 2 are stunners, Charlie! It figures you would have nicer examples than the museum.:D

I started Quoting nearly every knife- but the deleted it all - Man - there are some stunning examples, SK's example is absolutely beautiful!

The lovely aged look of Georges Ivory is as good as it gets!!!

Charlie your last two shown are just great - this is not to take anything away from your others you have shown, I had to laugh as I know very little about this style of knife and didnt know there was a Taper in the handle for the Grafting :o

WOW!! Charlie - These are both exquisite examples! The threaded bolsters and overall fit and finish
on the Ivory Saynor show highly skilled cutler workmanship at its finest!:)

I wouldn't dream of distracting you, Robin!!;)

:eek:Warning!!
Robin, avert your eyes!!
Keep your soul pure!!!;)

I almost forgot this guy! Such a fine assemblage of steel and brass, with Ebony and Ivory!!

Typical Empire engineering, fit and finish! I'd be proud to carry this tool around the orchard!!

Now that's a Jim Dandy Charlie!!
Love the lines and the unusual blade shape.....................Yup we're talkin Jim right there!!!:cool:
