I beg the differ.. we have plenty of heftier and thicker combat oriented blades from Wauseon, and I'm sure they'll continue to come. The ironic part FOR ME, at least, is that it appears to make an ideal hunting knife as it stands. I would prefer to have something 3/16" thick if it were to be made as a sort of fighter/combat knife along the lines of the Taliwhacker. I just wish these smaller designs Dan has been releasing were more like .25-28" thick, personally. I definitely like knives that can cut and appreciate thin knives but I really feel that thick, beastly knives are mostly what we are all here for AND they are what Dan & Jerry have really spent years getting JUST right. My opinion, and also that of the late Cliff Stamp, I might add... was that a slicer at similar thickness is really the last thing I want from Wauseon, OH because that is not what the maker has spent the majority of their time working with. If I want a slicer I would much prefer to just get something from Spyderco, when I want a combat knife w/ Resiprene-C on a hell of a budget I look to Scrap Yard.
I, for one, appreciate variety. Their heart treatment on that SR-101 is phenomenal and I love getting some thinner slicer practical Bussekins that I can actually USE on a regular basis. I don't live in a jungle and, fortunately, don't make my living in the front lines of a battlefield (but I worked on the front lines in mental health). I don't have a lot of (any, now) battlefield needs, yet I try to put my Bussekins to use of I'm in the woods, camping, etc. These thinner designs actually make it so I can use them in more places, carry discretely more often, and who doesn't wanna see their Bussekins get used MORE?
Heck, I like these practical ones (includes all recent Yard offerings, RMD, MudMutts, mega Warden, etc.) so much I've gifted them and since made new believers in Busse, Swap Rat, and Scrap Yard. And that to me, is a good thing.
