• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Hey deker

This month is Sunday the 21st. The website has just been updated with the 2007 schedule as well as information on Blacksmith Days. The website address is http://www.bgcmonline.org.

Generally meatings run 9-5 with open forge time in the AM, demonstration of some sort around 10-11, pot luck lunch around noon, followed by iron in the hat and monthly trade item stuff, then business meeting and board meeting (and folks usually keep forging during the meetings).

Hopefully we'll see you there!

Guess I'll fork out the $ and join this time. I already downloaded the form
Anything you got special in mind to work on?

Nothing particular in mind at this point. I'm beginning to ramp up for my competition knife at Backsmith Days, but the plan is mostly a secret at this point (greatly due to the fact that I'm not sure at this point if my idea will pan out). I'll probably have some more damascus stuff to show off, though none of it is likely to be finished.

I may want to chat with you about a project for the mill though. I need to build some laddering dies for the power hammer and I figure milling them out will be my best bet for consistancy.

I think we can work that out.. Is there a theme for the competition knife?

Yup...Rules should be announced at the meeting, but it's "recycled materials" blade and handle must be recycled from something else (shop drops don't count). Guard and pin stock do not have to be, but may be recycled. You have to show via progress pictures or samples of materials the recycled nature of your piece.

That's pretty much it.

You have fun with that... That's one of the reasons that when I wrote the rules I decided that guard and pin stock didn't have to be recycled...'cuz I'm lazy :D
