Hey everyone, i wanna get a new watch

Hey Aaron,

You asked for a review of my new Seiko, so here it is: I started looking for an automatic watch because I was tired of replacing batteries (3 watches this year) and wondering if it was sealed correctly. A couple of years ago a jeweler screwed up my Luminox and it started taking on water.:( I also was looking for an auto to celebrate losing weight (30+ pounds) - but that's another story.

I like the feel of the watch. It a nice hunking piece of steel that feels good on my wrist. For right or wrong, I like heavy watches, as to me they feel well made. Also it is a thick watch, over 1/2 inch, so you don't wear it under dress shirts.

I didn't like the original watch band that came on it. That was ok with me because I knew that I wanted to mount it on a Rhino watch band. I discovered how good the watch pins are on this watch. I coulding remove them by pressing the pins in - I had to cut the Seiko band off. This was ok, since the original band was uncomfortable to me.

The big thing was the price. I got mine at a local Seiko store. I got a great price for it - $115. It was a no brainer since on the internet I was looking to buy one for $160.

Sorry I can't give you a more detailed review. I've had it for only 3 weeks. The time is still accurate (just checked it against www.timeanddate.com). It's Winter here in New England so I haven't been in the water with it or the woods (hiking and camping).

And to comment on what someone had said about Seikos and O&W's being like Toyotas and BMW's - I'll agree with that. I would buy an O&W but at the price that I bought the Seiko, I can beat on it and not feel bad about it. By the way, I did also buy the Toyota 4 Runner a couple of years ago over the BMW X5. I couldn't justify the price difference. Also unlike 95% of SUV owners, I do take it off road and somehow I feel more comfortable off road in the Toyota than I would be in the BMW.

Good luck in your search!

haha thanks, i forgot about auto winding watches :P

well its seiko diver, or O&A

1/2" thick? YIKES

Another vote for Invicta. I have the 8926 Pro Diver. A great watch for little money.

Ok ive narrowed it down to.............

Invicta
Seiko diver

Or an O&A

if anyone can give me links to good dealers, please post tyhem

I would recomend you first check out the Post Exchange at broadarrow.net and the Sales Corner at timezone.com. Here are some dealers, I don't know them and haven't dealt with them so blah, blah, disclaimer, but a lot of people have and had good results. Don't know anything about Invicta dealers.

www.easternwatch.com (Seiko) Some very reasonable stuff here, I believe that most of this stuff is sold in Asia only.

www.westcoastime.com (O&W) Never heard anything bad about Marx

http://www.chronograph.com/store/storefront.htm (Seiko) somebody on this thread posted this and had a good experience.

broadarrow.net - military watches, click "Post Exchange" watch out because a lot of people on here aren't US,so the shipping could be high.

timezone.com - click "Community" and click "Sales Corner" the biggest place for resale of watches I know outside ebay.

Here are the O&W's on ebay tonight, the MP2 looks good, I might bid on that:

If you are looking for a good deal, IMHO the Seiko Auto's are close to impossible to beat for the $. Also the Poljot's are very interesting, some of them use ETA movements, 2824 I believe. Bear in mind that a quartz watch will USUALLY keep better time and less fragile than an auto. Not as cool though.

definately getting seiko diver, i just hafta find a dealer, either online (NO EBAY) or local. And im gonna get one with the metal band b/c the rubber ones will crack.

Recent G-shock lineup have solar batteries. I love my "tough solar" G-5600 (it's plastic, yes), but there are some tough solar MT-G series. Choice is yours, I just presume it might be worth a look at them before buying seiko diver.

I just got a Seiko diver, the SKX007K, got it from Chronograph.com for $118 delivered. It's a beautiful watch, runs great, and the transaction went off without a hitch.

I got the one with a rubber strap because I personally don't like metal straps, but they have the various divers on the website, all at great prices.
