thinking about any mods to it yet? :p

haha well, ive ordered a set of walnut scales. I was thinking of stripping it down, giving it a little sand, then putting on a patina.

im not sure tho to be honest, this is my first 'real' knive, besides a few swiss army and leathermans I have, so I dont wanna screw it up.

I do like the bare metal look to these knives, ah who knows lol :-/

If you're going to strip it and do a patina, there are a lot of threads to show you the way. I've used CitriStrip but any paint stripper should work. Just make sure you do it outside or anywhere with good ventilation and that the ambient temperature is above 70ºF. Paint stripper doesn't work very well in cool temps.
Patina can be done with just about any acidic media. I've used vinegar, fresh mango, hot sauce, and grapefruit. Again, there are a lot of threads to help.
The best thing about patinas is that they aren't permanent. You can strip it and start over if you don't like the results.

Do it up!
It's extremely easy to do!
I've made 2 threads on stripping and putting a patina on the BK9 and BK2, there's also a LOT of great videos online to help you out.
Have any questions let me know.

thanks :-)

Well Ive just come back from the local hardware shop with some paint stripper, rubber gloves, kitchen towel, a metal tray, and various grit sandpapers.

Going to try a few different grits out on an old knife to see which ones give me the finish im after......wish me luck :-/

if im honest, im not too sure what finish im after, just a nice smooth blemish free finish really, I dont want to go to shiny, although I like the look, but I will be too scared to use it just incase I ruin the finish,

Ive got an old used and abused leatherman skeletool that im gonna practice on.

You can always do a full blade light patina which creates a protective barrier and makes the steel look darker without marks and such.

May I add, you may want to etch the logos first before you strip it. Lots of threads here about etching too!

ive got upto a 600 grit on the leatherman, and its pretty much the finish i was after, i might go too 800, just too see.

I must admit, its pretty satisfying restoring a bit of a shine to an old knife you've owned for years :-)

i was hoping to wait until the walnut scales arrived too see how the black blade contrasted against the new handles......but im itching to give it ago i dont think i can wait!

I had to order them from the states so probably take a few weeks to arrive

I'm glad you are happy with what you made lol.
I hope it comes in sooner for you.

Yeah i did wonder about losing the logo, it slipped my mind to be honest. I just assumed it would be a stamped logo bk2 when i ordered it, only after i ordered it did i read that later bk2's were laser etched as the stamping process may effect strength.

How much/Where did you buy the BK2 in the UK. I searched the life out of google for UK dealers, but only two I found was sold out, and one had it listed at a good price, but never replied to any emails, so assume its either a bogus crap shop using names to bring in the internet hits, or a bit useless - either way would not buy from them. So I imported from the US, good exchange rate made it a cracking deal and with shipping, import VAT, still worked out cheaper!

It's one hell of a knife, but the sheath belt-loop (upper part) is a joke. If you find any good alternatives or additional kit to mod the sheath better in the UK - do post! Good to have some sources here that don't require the "Santa-Clause syndrome" where its torture having to wait 10+ days for something you ordered.

I ordered mine from heinnie.com in the end, answered all my questions via email almost instantly.

like you said, I did find several other sites claiming to have the bk2 instock, but neither replied to my emails.

I paid just over £90 for mine, including next day delivery (hate waiting lol).

I probably paid over the odds, but dont we always here :-/

I have got a nice set of walnut scales on route to me now via ebay, but again probably have to wait a few weeks as their coming from the us, but cost about £25 delivered.
