Hey Guy!!! How about a ugly knife contest?????

This is exactly what the customer wanted

I wanted it to have the look of a knife that was hammered out and left with hammer marks. So I heated it up and beat it on a rock. It's a good cutting knife for dirty jobs.

beat that ;)

Not only is this knife butt ugly, the workmanship is poor, and it won't cut worth a damn. I wouldn't take it to the dump without wearing a veil.Ugly knife1.JPG

This is the first knife I ever made from scratch- as per a coworkers plans for her boyfriends Christmas present- AND I GOT PAID FOR IT!!!! It is a hard mystery steel from work that will slash through my cutting dummy- but I am still glad I got rid of it (The design was definately not something I would make unless I was paid for it). It says "Bathed in Blood" in Norse runes

P.S. Is there any way to get the images to download smaller- my search was unsuccessful

WOW! I am definately "outclassed" in this arena! That slab o' steel on the bathed in blood stand is up there, but that folder with teeth... What do you cut with that?

I have to say, this is by far the best thread I've seen in a while. I've just spent the last five minutes rolling on the floor laughing. As a newbie maker, I don't know what I'm more afraid of: turning out a knife that looks like some of these or having to hear about it from you guys. Anyways, keep 'em coming, I love it!! But let me play too. Here's a pic of the first flintknapped knife I made back in '02. The handle is cut from a shower loofa, the "blade" is some crud rock that barely flaked. Geez I was proud . . .

For a few minutes I thought this was some abstract art. The guard appeared to be the arms to me :)

I kind of wish that folder thing wasn't posted so early - I fear the bar has just been set way too low :)

I think there s a diffrence between ugly and just pour quality, im not trying to affend anyone here and i would never judge any ones knife as pour quality. its just that some times your work you ass off to make somthing high quality and in the end its just but ugly but quality work. that happens to me when i fail to plan ahead and realy think over the design. I have made my fair amount of ugly beasts. keep the pictures comming

I agree. On one hand, there's ugly design, and on the other, ugly workmanship. The really ugly knives have both!

It's now been dubbed the "Walks Like An Egyptian Cactus"
:D :D

Come on now- is everybody else too proud to show off their stuff- Or am I one of 3 people on the forums to make steel look bad???

Okay, I'll play. Knife is 34 years old, first one I ever made and gave it to a friend because he liked it so much and always regretted giving it away. Well about 3 months ago I ran into him and he gave it back....maybe I don't want it so bad anymore:) Made from an acetylene torch heat treated and oil quenched anhydrous amonia applicator shank, hamon hidden by rust, welded on steel bolster, integral guard with phenolic handle. What a reminder of from where I come.
