Hey guys and gals, I'm new!

WOW! thanks everybody! The RMD seem like the the popular girl in school. I like the idea of that blade size in the INFI. HAHA. Look at me learning stuff already!. Anyway. I like that knife. Alot! I will most definitely pick one of them up in time. Right now I'm feeling the choppers tho. The 711 looks just like the SOD almost with the SOD being a tich beefier (like me) I'm digging something in the 7 to 8-8.5 range for some heavier work.

Man this place is cool. I'm seriously enamored with some of these blades guys. Works of art! Who knew this kind of stuff existed, well besides all of you!

A 7-8.5 inch chopper with a sheathe for around $250 is what my wheel house is right now unfortunately. Looks like I could find something used in that department possibly. Otherwise I either need to keep saving and scrap the idea for now or just bite the bullet and get a divorce! haha!

What is the name of the knife stamped on most of the Busse knives? Or is that even a real thing? The style of whatever that knife is is also amazing to me. I'm in trouble here, I can tell already

mostly, its which "front" the knife comes from: busse, swamp rat, or scrapyard. you will also find other info there as well, a #xxx -if it was a limited edition, sometimes other info like which steel type it is. garths logo is there on "garth" editions. stuff like that. sometimes you will find other stuff. this is just the stuff I can think of...

Probably a straight handle steel heart, or steel heart ergo. ASH1, SHe, SHSH1.

My favorites in that range are the SHe, NMSFNO, and Basic 8. The Fusion steel heart FSH is very popular, but I've never had one.

I really like 711 too though and you can't beat it for value.

My most used are a Basic 11 and my Ratmandu.

Welcome to the madness ilyk.:) You buy just one Busse-Kin knife and you are hooked! You'll keep on buying. No two ways about it! It is impossible to buy "just one"! But there are far worse addictions. At least this one won't harm your health.

Much research can be done, to gain knowledge on the Bussekins. Perhaps someone here can post a useful link. For Busse's only, you may want to investigate Bad Mojo Busse site. "Good luck, Jim."...;-)

Hello ilyk, welcome to the Busse Universe!

A chopper for $250? Look for a Swamp Rat Camp Tramp or a SR Battle Rat. Maybe a SR Chopweiler, not sure what those are going for.

Yeah unfortunately. Just for now anyway. I actually though that was a lot until I found this place. I was a little unprepared for the cost of some of these things. I'm going to start saving for more tho. After a few days poking around I think my Holy Grail is the HHFSH for a chopper. Quite a ways out of my price range today but I'll get there. It'd be cool to find an active duty for sale as I'm only gonna try and wear one out. (impossible) As of right now My fav sub 5 is prolly HRLM. Would make a cool Pair. I live in MN and most of my camping is done around bodies of water. For that reason I'm also drawn to the scrap yard rubber style handles. Hence my love for the SOD. Paired with a 511 or even a 311 would make me feel all tingly inside.

Thanks again guys. Nice warm welcome here. You folks are great people I can tell.

Where in Minnesota? I happen to reside in that very state. If you have wood, I've got a couple choppers you could try out, if I can play too that is.

Have you thought about the basic 11? Great light chopper. Res c handle.

I live in the Blaine Fridley, north metro area. I thought about the 11 a little. I feel that might be on the long side for my needs. I feel the 7-9 inch is right in my wheelhouse. I actually commented to you in another thread about living in minnesota. Haha

Is this the one you talking about? Its a HHFSH. Welcome!
that right there is my holy grail

yeah right? Seems as soon as I make up my mind on a sub 5 inch blade 879387520273914 others come along and screw everything up. I'm so mad I didn't find this place sooner! I could have a sweet collection by now. I like so many I can't decide where to start. Prolly a common problem. LOL

Here's a stupid question. Does that coating on the blades like that slow you down a little when splitting wood?

some say so, id strip it if it was going to be an occasional user, but a hard use as in leave it outside all the time, Id leave the coating on it. My .02

That thing is sweet man. I'll be needing one of those shortly. Says about $330 on the price guide. Is that accurate? That's actually nicely priced.
