Hey guys, I posted this in General as well, but wanted to share it specifically with my Hog brothers. This is the best deal in knife storage I've seen in years. If you have any questions, let me know. -G

Hey guys, every now and then I come across a good deal on a great piece of knife storage equipment. It depends on your security needs of course, as many of us use big ol' heavy safes, but you can't beat this for the price. In fact, it's better than solutions that cost three times as much. What you get:

1) It's BIG. Lots of room here for big fixed blades, and much more storage volume than a Gerstner type of thing

2) It's fairly light. With the drawers out, you can move it easily with a friend.

3) All stainless steel construction. Not only is it high-quality materials, but it cleans up nicely, has a custom look, and won't off-gass glue, wood treatment chems, or urethane. Don't need to worry about non color-fast felt liners.

4) Doesn't have the usual air gaps most tool chests have that allow dust in, but still permits air flow.

5) Drawers on bearings, not sliders, like most professional tool chests

When you consider everything you're getting, I think this piece is ideal for knife storage. I can't believe they're selling it for $319, shipping included and no tax. A Gerstner equivalent would cost about $2500, another comparable tool chest this size and quality with bearing drawers usually costs $1000.

Let me know what you think, and if you have something else you think is a better value and solution for knife storage.

Stainless Steel Tool Chest

I use a Kobalt chest that is almost identical that I got on sale at Lowe's. Works great.

I used to recommend flat file cabinets such as the one below, but the problem with those is that unless you employ non-stick liners, you end up using only the front half, as the knives tend to slide around and it's hard to reach the back. Most non-stick liners off-gas, negating the advantage of a metal cabinet. For those who need a great deal of space, particularly for fixed blades, a flat file might still be a good solution if you order and install a stable thin cork pad for each drawer. Even then however, most flat file cabinet drawers are too think to accommodate fixed blade sheaths to sit alongside the knives, especially with a liner. Not so with the tool chest. The drawers are deep enough to accommodate the knives and their sheaths.

I just have my knives on my desk. My collection isnt large enough to warrent a chest:o

Great idea, but they're out of stock online. :(

I'm currently using several drawers in my Craftsman rolling tool chest, which is basically the same idea only taller. I want one of these Huskys though, so I can reclaim my tool chest. :D ....out of stock. Bummer.

Yeah, check your local HD. I think they may be clearing these out. I bought the last one at a big HD near me.

I'll have to check out some local HD's after work today - I want it for an actual tool box, not storage of my safe queen knives (don't have any!)

Good timing to buy a big heavy tool box too, since I'm moving in a few months :D

Thanks for the recommend, I'm a zippered knife case, air tight plastic tub guy right now....been thinking about switching to a tool chest/drawers.

thanks for the heads up balislinger, gives me a few ideas.

good question about the shallow drawers rg!!

All mine are buried in sealed PVC in undisclosed locations.
