Hey guys, New here. Need help picking a knife

If no legalities were involved, I'd say a Native III or a Delica. Since none of us have any idea what the law is, or some of us at least know a broad interpretation of the law, I'd say a Cricket, Navigator or Meerkat.

I recomend a Buck 110. With practice, Buck 110's can be opened quite fast with 2 hands, and they are nothing close to a switchblade or gravity knife. With their 3 1/2" clip point blade they are quite good at anything from shaving bark off a stick to fighting. I used mine hard for several years and it was still in good shape when I gave it to my buddy. Besides, Buck 110's can easily be purchased for as little as $30. so if they break you can get a new one.
I'll second the 110 idea. They're damn good little knives, and they're durable. I've got one from the early 70's that locks up as tight as it did when it left the Buck shop and it still looks pretty good too.

I wouldn't fight with one, or try to defend myself with it because it's just not made for that (it's not a fast opener and I don't think the handle is very good for stabbing... I like my fingers).

And besides, it's a requirement to be a knife knut... you have to own at least one 110 (I've got several...).

thanks guys. I do not live in NYC, I am about an hour away from it. The law reads

Section 265 Definitions
4. "Switchblade knife" means any knife which has a blade which opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in the handle of the knife.

I have had some people say an assisted opener is not that. As long as you do not push a button you are ok. Who knows though the NY is very confusing. I have also seen some for sale in stores around here so my best bet would be to ask local law enforcement.

If you have your heart set on an assisted opener, get one and put it away. Try an old fashioned lockback for your EDC, I think that the 110 is too big for EDC, but I think everybody needs one for their collection.

"Local law enforcement" in many jurisdictions has been known to exhibit near-total ignorance of relevent knife LAW. This is not a major focus of LE activity, so they don't read it, they pick up rules of thumb from older officers, who picked up old rules of thumb from a different era.

To be safe, you can read STATE KNIFE LAWS by Bernard Levine, and you can ask your local district attorney's office for information on relevent case law, which may be more important than the State law itself.

Well like me you live in the free part of the state. ;)

Get a Spyderco Endura.About $45.Great steel,great lock, great company.

Slim strong and sharp!

I own many more expensive knives, custom knives etc. I really can't say they perform any better than the Endura.

If a guy pulls a knife or a gun at you, leave yours in the pocket and use your running shoes-- it is a much better solution :D

Jose

of course!, but there could be a rare instance where they have determined they are going to attack you with the intentions to hurt you and rob you. I wouldnt risk my life over a few dollars, but I would have to if I had no choice and was attacked without warning. In that situation a knife that needs 2 hands to open is useless I think, by then it could be too late.

For your price range, I'd agree with the suggestion of a Spyderco Delica. I've had mine for years, and while I've traded quite a few knives, I would never trade my Delica away ;)

Here here...I've carried my Delica for the last nine years. Broke the tip once and the old style belt clip but i sent it to Spyderco and they reshapped the blade, sharpened it, and put a new steel clip on for $10.00 including shipping. I love this little knife for a EDC.

It may be a little big... but certainly no bigger than a lot of the tacticals that a lot of people carry (myself included). The 110 feels bigger than it is though. If you like that style, but think it's too big, get a 112... same classic design, high quality and still a hell of a lot of knfie.
