Thinking of making the jump to a Becker bk2 companion what are your guys thoughts of this being my first Becker purchase? Or is there another you guys would recommend as a first purchase. This will be a woods knife general camp task I'm not really in to huge choppers just little info of plans in use. Can't wait to hear pros and cons from you guys.

Thanks in advance

KREEEEEEEEEEKKKK!!! As the blast doors open from the Becker vault. Kulump, Kulump, Kulump. Closer and closer the sound approached of leather shod feet, echoing through the chambers.

:D Just funnin'! The BK-2 is nice enough, hard to break. But, I tend to think sequentially, so.......

15. Wait. Discontinued. 5. Wait darn same thing. 16 maybe? 2 is thick and awesome. 17? 7? Oh wait 10? I still say 15.

For that I would suggest the 16 or 10. The 2 is a little thick IMO.

I think the 2 is too thick for a knife. I don't subscribe to the "sharpened pry bar" mentality. I think 1/4'' is way too much stock thickness, especially for a blade that size. Go with the 16 or 10 instead.

At the end of the day, this is just my opinion. Get what you want or you'll regret it.

Well guys pulled the pin looked at them all and decided on the 10. Really appreciate all the suggestions can't wait to get my hands on it

You're all nuts :P the 2 is an amazing knife and the perfect gateway into Beckerdom. First off... because its 'The Trainwrecker' , you can beat that thing through anything and it will survive (proof by many a thread you can search for here). You can also sharpen it slicey enough to comfortably (if you don't mind the weight) preform every task. Its a master of none... but a jack of all trades IMO. The 10 will serve you well... but if you ever get a 2 in your hands, you'll know why you should of went that way :D

Congrats on your choice of a great Becker knife, you can't really go wrong with any of them. Now get yourself a 11 / 14 to pair with your new purchase, you'll be glad you did!

No way get the 21!!

Seriously though the 10 is a great start. The 2 is a bit much for me if we're looking at the "one knife" scenario. I love my 10! I would definitely say the 5 too if you can find one.

Great to hear it! There are plenty of mods done to the 10 as well.

Pull up a chair, sit back, and contemplate which Becker will be your next one.
I suggest an 11.

Lol oh I been looking and reading a lot in here love the mod threads I like to tinker in the garage so I wouldn't be surprised if you don't see a few from me already looking for handle alternatives but wait till I get it in hand to really decide

My first (& only) Becker is a 2. I bought it because I was enamored with my Nephews ESEE 5. Its nearly the identical knife with the Becker having the much more comfortable handle. As others have stated, its a brute of a knife. Functional if your into heavy duty, it also is a capable camp kitchen knife. I've sliced tomatoes paper thin with it. It dices and slices very well. Here it with a custom sheath I bought off fleabay. I disliked the OEM sheath which is very long and cumbersome.

That's a good choice, I've owned two 2s and ended up giving away both of them, it's a great knife but just too thick and heavy for the size. I still own a 16 and think it would do much better than the 2 for similar tasks in the woods, and I used the 9 for years in the woods as a do-everything knife, since the 10 is just a shortened 9 I think it'd do fantastic at just about everything in the woods.

The 2 was my first Becker. I am happy it was. It is STOUT, but at the same time it can be pressed into detail work. The thicker stock makes the handle more comfortable to me. If I were to do it all over I'd still get a 2 as my first Becker.

Was thinking the same thing going to try the 10 if it's what I like I might give the 9 a try for the longer blade. Most of my time in the woods are spent with custom skinners or bushcraft knives which do well been looking for awhile through different threads about the bigger knives so I picked this one due to the history usefulness and the attitude of the people here.

I think you'll be pleased with the 10. That may be your "gateway" to other Becker knives. Most people don't end up with just one......they end up with a small to substantial collection. lol The 10 is a nice size. The 16, which has also been mentioned, is a very nice knife as well. Not quite as substantial as the 10 but it would do most any task you needed. If you like smaller, the bk11 or bk14 are fantastic knives as well. The 9 is a great chopper for its size and it extremely well received by most all that use it. Just letting you know that it's likely you'll end up looking at other Becker knives after you get your 10. The Becker knives may not replace your custom knives but they may make some great combos that you can try. Enjoy your 10 and let us know what you think of it when you get it. :)
