Just got back from vacation last night. We've got to move on our Grand Canyon reservations to ensure a spot the first week of November. Will you and the missus be able to join us this year? Sure hope so. It will be a blast.

Let me know as soon as possible. The application should go out next Monday, August 4.

Cheers, :)

Hey Bill!

I'm gonna say no. The wife just had some surgery and she's the one that does all the flight and reservation planning and stuff. Sure she will be over it before then but she isn't up to planning it out right now and I'm afraid if she waits we'll get screwed up flight wise.

If you are really going to do it every year though and around the same time count on us next time and we'll do it for sure. She was looking it all up and looks like they even have a shuttle from the airport to the place you are staying so it's do able for us:thumbup: She went halfway down in college and has actually bugged me to go out and do it so we're in for next year or next time.

Hey HDW, what does planning a trip like this entail? I would love to do this sometime!!

I do plan to do the trip every year though the route might vary some. So we'll look for you guys next time around.

Hope Mrs. HD recovers soon. Give her my best.

Best place to start is to order a "Trip Planner Package" at the following web site:

https://www.grand-canyon.com/forms/14.95.htm

You'll receive a complete description of all the trails with associated distances and elevation changes. Campgrounds accessible along the trails are also provided. Excellent maps are included as well as complete climatological data to help you plan your trip. Be aware that the climate at the rim is quite different from the climate one mile below in the inner gorge.

The trip planner package contains a form for a proposed itinerary that you can submit 3 to 5 months in advance. There are a lot of factors to consider, but all the info you need is in the package.

Good luck to you.

Wow, thanks man. I will order that packet, and go from there. I would love to do this in 2010. Thanks alot Bill!!

Will this be the one day trek you mentioned earlier bear? That will be quite a feat.

Yes I want to do it in a day. Down South Kaibab Trail and up Bright Angel. I think the Bright Angel trail is one of my favorite trails. It took me 6 hours hiking out Bright Angel with full pack and gear. Took about 4 hours going down SK trail. I like to enjoy the scenery and take pictures but this trip will be for the exercise more than anything else. I want to stay in the camp grounds at the top instead of a hotel.

Many thanks HDW! I have ordered a packet to study for the 2009 trip I want to do with my son.

Well let's just say that the surgery should help her hiking as her problem was a "major pain in the ass" for her. After she recovers she should be able to hike with much less discomfort:D

Nice thing about Grand Canyon Natl. Pk. is that there are so many options you can tailor a trip to your specific preferences. I like the contrast between primitive camping in the inner gorge and a comfortable motel room with a great restaurant on the rim. After three days in the canyon the accommodations available on the rim are a real treat. :D

I couldn't agree with you more.
