So I was doing a search on another forum and came across this:

At first it doesn't seem too bad but look what happens when you strip it and get some pics from a different angle:

Now ok the handle was swapped and Busse style tube fastners used to hold the new slabs on but the talon hole looks very familiar.

Looks dangerous. I never understood why you'd put a massive choil on a knife that doesn't connect to the sharpened blade.

Either the two pictured knives are different or it's been re-handled. The first picture caught my attention for two different things: The talon hole and the Becker Knife slab handles. The second pictures has similar but definitely different handles.

I agree, though, a knife/machete this size in INFI would be great.

The knife was stripped and new handles applied by one of the BB members. While the general shape reminds me of a bullet nosed proto FBM (correct terminology?) I guess that's no bad thing, the talon hole is just a little bit too much like a Busse.

I might get one to baton my BM through the spine of it, just for banter. If I do i'll post some pics.

Why is it that everytime another manufactuer adds a TALON hole, that Busse fans jump all over it ? There are a lot of manufacturers that have their knifes copied and I don't hear them "squealing" about it.

.......... and that makes it alright?

Maybe because some knife makers (such as Jerry) take action. They are tired of the Chinese copying everything.

If you notice some one using a trademark, and you don't do anything, you will soon loose the ability to enforce it at all.

It has nothing to do with "Copying" it has to do with the fact that Busse Combat has a registered trademark on the front talon hole. There are no "Trademark" cops so it is Busse Combats responsibility to protect this trademark. If they do not protect it then it is worthless to have a registered trademark. The way for them to know about others that may be infringing on the trademark is for the customers to notify Busse Combat about possible problems.

If they let those infringing on the trademark get away with it then it was worthless for them to go through the cost and time to even get the trademark.

I hope that helps

Boker does some original stuff in the Magnum line (CLB's stuff that bears the Magnum logo), but a lot of it is just picked from factory catalogs apparently. This seems to be one of those.

Fair question. It is because Jerry Busse has a trademark on the 'talon-hole'.. Anyway, as the person holding the trademark, you are required to enforce it on your own. Which generally that the violator would be contacted and made aware that they are in violation. I think in a lot of cases, it is just an honest mistake from makers that were not aware that the trademark exists. Other times it is a direct rip-off.

The reason for the "squeeling" is that we are just trying to help out with the enforcement part of the trademark. I think it is the right thing to do.

EDIT: Bully types faster than me!

Or why is it that every time the Busse trademark is enforced, or at least looked into, there are those that have to "squeal" about that? Hmmmm.

You guys hit it on the head.

We really appreciate the fact that you guys keep an eye out for us.

In most cases other makers and manufacturers are unaware that they are infringing.

Let's Drink!!!!!

A hog without a squeal just ain't a hog!!

It takes intellect to understand intellectual property rights. We're seeing some smart pigs squealing here.

I took an intellectual property class in law school. Even after taking that class, it is still a super complex area to understand.
