Hey Jerry look familiar, Talon Hole maybe?

It takes intellect to understand intellectual property rights. We're seeing some smart pigs squealing here.

How are you supposed to attach a D-guard if you don't have that front hole?

(Careful, it's a trick question. Trademarks are required to be non-functional. Since the talon hole is a registered trademark, D-guards must therefore not exist.)

This thread is interesting to me. I knew that Busses always had a talon hole, and often wondered why, since on smaller knives like the Meaner, I thought it got in the way. I never knew until now that the talon hole was a trademark. United has a "bowie" that is generally shaped like the Hell Razor. It even has the talon hole. I wonder if they have been informed of their infringement.

It was brought too Jerry's attention quite some time ago, that's blatant. IIRC Jerry said he was working on it.

Yes, that is an obvious copy of a Busse. I have known for some time that the talon hole is a way to spot a Busse, but I didn't realize it was trademarked. You would think that a company copying a Busse would know that and leave out the trademarked feature.

Money, its that simple. Those third world knife makers know that they are pretty much immune to US law so they seek out popular designs to knock off.

Most of, if not all of United Cutlery's merchandise is made in China, very difficult if not impossible to enforce a trademark there.

SuttonD, why? :thumbdn:

As far as intellectual property goes I work for my father as an architectural technician. The amount of times people call us out to do surveys and talk ideas over then decide not to go through with it. Or so they say, then you see a planning application from that client going for the exact design you talked about. Only they got some student to knock out the drawings for next to no cash.

Now we err on the side of caution unless we know a client really well.

So i'll defend anyone's design if I see it being ripped off.

It's not squealing it's stopping stealing.

I bought one of these quite some time ago at a gun show and sent it to Jerry. They took a Hell Razor and just upscaled the size slightly. Blatant rip-off.
