hey morrow

That's an interesting point, Stacy. Although in this case I doubt it would have made a difference. I'm sorry if I exacerbated the situation, I was just being honest. Perhaps I should stop doing that so much or so directly?

To borrow a quote from Pulp Fiction "If my answers frighten you then you should cease asking scary questions." :D

James, I read your response, and it was informative and directly to the point. You didn't sugar coat it, but it wasn't beligerant in my opinion. He just thought he had discovered the road to knifemaking Nirvana, and was upset when he was informed it was more likely a dead end. However, instead of being appreciative of your input, he got defensive and nasty. We all tried to help him find a balance, but it was apparently a waste of time.

James, you gave him a well thought out, honest, and CORRECT assessment.

He didn't like it, and fell apart from there.

Nobody's fault but his own.

Mods, FWIW, I think you handled this well, from beginning to inevitable end.

Your response was polite enough.
His response to your post indicated, even to a non-professional, that he has some mental issues.
Being able to interact effectively in a virtual community is a learned skill, and I suspect that fellow has some learning left to do.

James,
I wouldn't put any of the burden on myself if I were you. As you saw, I applauded your response as right on target before he ever even responded and lost it. If your response wasn't there when I first read the thread I would have typed something very similar. Nothing wrong at all with what you said. Honest responses to ideas from the less experienced are important. What if everyone babied the guy and he pursued the idea. He would have had a rude awakening when it came time to pay the bill for something like that. All the better to find out early on if you're way off base. It's a shame he couldn't take it at face value.
