Hey, needing advice for first swamp rat.

I think the sharpest "hard use" blades I have received are from Becker; those things are crazy sharp out of the box.

I think you will be very happy with the Swamp Rat.
Maybe not always the sharpest blades (but can be easily improved), the Rats have many other great qualities including gorgeous micarta, very strong steel and excellent warranty.

My son recently purchased a little tool called the WORKSHARP and he is now putting hair shaving razor edges on our knives in just a few minutes.

Awesome! I will definitely have to looking into that worksharp then. Thanks

Thanks bud!

You are correct. No custom shop options right now. I only mention the satin version due to the grind question, but there is certainly nothing wrong with getting one started from the shop. You can get the color combo you want by ordering direct also.

You might not give up finding one in Australia. There could be more near you than what you think :)

Thanks for the help/response HK (as always) :)

Besides the busse for sale page, is there somewhere/anywhere else i should be looking?

I check ebay once in a while but prices are just ridiculously blown out of proportion (usually).

There are probably more Busses sold on their sale exchange here on Blade than any other single place on the net. I would troll it hard for a few weeks, and I'll bet you can find one. Knifehunter.com carries a lot of bussekin. I just cruised through there though to see if Trevor had an RMD and didn't find any.

What I would personally do is spring for a gold membership so that you can list what you're wanting in your signature line, advertising for a WTB. If that helps you find one at home, you might save the amount of the membership in shipping fees. Also that allows folks to PM you if they know you're looking and find a blade listed you might be interested in. I definitely do that if I know a buddy is looking for something.

You could check out Swamp Rat's own forum as well. Just go to their website and look for discussion forum. They're (we're) a good bunch, mostly :D :D Also, there are a bunch of Aussies on there that might help hook you up. There's not an Exchange there, but there is a lot of knowledge.

Awesome thanks!
I think i will take your advice and go gold also. In addition it might make sellers trust me more. Because one time someone didn't want to ship from US here because i had no feedback score. I understand the concerns with internet trust but i thought if i am the one buying the trust part would be a factor for me to consider not the other way round? Anyway, point is i should probably go gold either way and search around.

Ill definitelt check out the SR forum, i didnt even know one existed, so thanks for that!
Where abouts are you from anyway?

I subconsciously assume everyone is american and forget to consider that i am not the only aussie on here haha.

Sorry, my last post kinda makes it sound like I'm in Australia. Nope, I'm in good ole Idaho, USA :)

ETA: Fixed!

Haha fair fair hk!
Most knife lovers are.
It definitely isnt a norm here...not to my understanding.
None of my friends are into knives whatsoever. Camping and what not, yes, but they sure dont share my blade love xD

Hey i am thinking of getting my first busse/SR with starting off with the beloved rmd.

Alot reviews i have read/watched say the edge comes fairly blunt. Should i/could i ask them to add a finer edge geometry, or leave it as is?

Any other advice or experiences with the rmd would be great too.

I like my RMD but no way I would've used it as I got it. I slapped it on the KME and 20 minutes later had a screaming sharp edge. I put it at 20 degrees per side but the SR-101 could've handled a more acute angle with no problems.

Mate, there is a few Aussies here, and a few in Sydney.
If you're going to stalk the exchange here, keep an eye out for Jackmandu, it's a recent souped RMD with a longer drop point blade.
There's an Aussie forum or two... ;) and RMD pops up every now and then
