Hey Spyderco, have you had a problem with the Delica4 pocket clip screws stripping?

Hey guys!
I had a Delica4 wave and the damn wave worked so good I couldn't get the knife out of my pocket without it opening a little, so I clipped it outside my pocket one day when I was using it a lot.

Well about a month before the screws in clip had come a little loose so I tried to tighten them and found that one had stripped.
I am a competent automobile mechanic and am well aware of the dangers of over torquing small fasteners, so in an attempt to avoid this I used only a hex bit with my fingers.
NO DRIVER!
I Loctited it and forgot about it.

The screws in the clip must have come out cause when I got home I reached for my knife and IT WAS GONE! The pocket clip and screws were
in my pocket though so now I have and extra clip? !DOH!
I'm quite sure it didn't snag on anything so who knows.

I know Spyderco has a good warranty but I would hate to try to make a claim on this one!

I swear I didn't just take the clip off and write a post in an attempt to scam the company, and as a matter of fact, I lost it 3 months ago.
It just never occurred to ask if this was a common problem as a way of approaching it.

BTW I own several other spydies and love them all!!!
I would really like to see the same clip on the Delica/Endura series that the Tasman Salt uses. It is very secure and only takes about 20 secs to change from one side to the other. Also I've taken the clip off and used it as a screwdriver!(hate people who use the tip of the blade to drive screws)

I'm going to go look for the invoice that came with the knife so I have some proof that I owned one.

Wearing the knife clipped to the outside of your pocket is begging to lose the knife. Claiming warranty at this point is just absurd.

That's about all I can say before I have to bite my tounge.

"If you can't say nuthin' nice, don't say nuthin' at all."

I was thinkin along the same lines, but if Spyderco has had a big problem with it then who knows?
BTW I have never lost ANY other knife. Ever.
Futhermore, I'm not one of you mall ninjas who carries some "Craptical Folder" just cause my little brother thinks its cool.

I see post after post after ignorant post here about "Which knife is the best?"

I'll tell ya right now! It's the one you can use!

Thats why i have Spydercos, they work.

Now if the knife fell off my damn pocket the sure, I'm a dumbass.

BUT THE CLIP STAYED WITH ME

And I did look at the construction of the liners and i there are maybe 2 threads worth of grip for the screws.
THAT is a design flaw.
Besides, there is no harm in asking.

Worst case you guys theorize as to how long it would take to bleed me out if stabbed in the carotid, slashed along the femoral, and some biomechanical cutting to the bicep, quad and oh hell I'll give you a wild card too. Try to calculate how long it would take your little brother to kill me too just for shits and giggles.

This actually started as a post about why the Endura waves blade is listed as shorter than the non wave.
Does anyone why the wave is 3.2 and the non wave is 3.94?
Is the measurement being taken from the front of the wave or what?

why not just buy a spyderco without the wave and leaving it "in pocket" instead of "out pocket"?

Hi There,

I had the same problem with my Waved Delica, one of the screws lost it's grip.
I contacted Terry from W&R Spyderco and he solved my problem by sending me some new screws.
I would suggest you contact Spyderco W&R.

kind regards,

Werner

Does anyone know if the Endura wave is shorter than the non wave?

The online catalogue says that the non-waved version is 1 mm longer, but the cutting edge on both is the same length. That, and the waved version is longer by 2 mm.

I've got a Delica 4 with home-made Zip Tie "wave".
And you're right.. it works TOO good!

When i want to draw knife withOUT waving open.. i have to twist blade and draw slowly to make sure wave doesn't catch. This forces clip to open unevenly from one side only.
I suppose lots of this extra twisting *can* put some extra stress on the clip, especially on pants with thick material/pockets.

To re-sheath "waved" Delica back in pants.. i insert in middle of pocket.. then slide it towards back of pocket.. ready for next waved opening. Not a big deal.. but with thicker pants/material.. I suppose this can also put extra sideways stress on the clip.

So yes, I believe waved does put more stresses on the clip.

Gotten to the point where I'm gonna get rid of my wave (cut the zip tie off).
Ymmv.
