Hey, Swinecosa!! ...Do You Know This Eight Legged Freak???

Nice one, when I lived in Austin Texas I was laying on the floor when I heard a tap tap tap, I looked up and we saw each other at the same time. I don't know who jumped the highest, me or the spider that was about that size. So I get a Big Gulp Cup and the same thing, he tucked in his legs and I'm looking at him, suddenly Rover the cat jumps and goes crazy outside the sliding window and I look down and another monster spider comes running across my paper.
First thought was Giant Spider Migration..I was about to freak...turned out a Male and Female just passing though and Rover just being a nut case.
I loved that crazy Cat.

But, around my house spiders are catch and release also..mice and raccoons aren't so lucky.

Fishing Spider I bet (from http://www.spiderzrule.com/commonspidersusa.htm ) :

Fishing Spiders are quite large and may have a leg spread of 75 mm or more. Fishing spiders are hairy, large, and usually a mixture of black, brown, and grey. Although very difficult to distinguish from wolf spiders, nursery web and fishing spiders are usually slimmer in build. The Dolomedes spiders live near water; they walk on the surface of water and dive underneath it to feed on aquatic insects and even small fish. Not all fishing spiders live near water however.

I have seen those before, underwater, clinging to rocks.

Jaxx,

Good on you for not killing that little beast--they're good to keep other insects away...creepy, but good.

I grew up on Kauai where we had "cane" spiders... very large, super ugly and crazy fast!

That's a big-un for sure. I wouldn't have been able to muster the restraint you showed, but it probably isn't his fault he's so ugly...

not an orb weaver & v similar to huntsman-we get them from time to time sitting on the wall up near the ceiling -sometimes as big as my hand with the legs out. not venomous but will inflict a bite if poorly handled.
Do you get Huntsman spiders in the USA? Looks and size are similar to the Huntsmans we get here in Australia - different colouration though.

wait till one walks across the INSIDE of your windscreen whilst driving along at night.. ho ho.. don't park under the tree.
Biggest spider I have EVER seen was a huntsman who made his home in my surfboard case. I screamed like a 7 year old girl when I opened my case. Its legs were hairier than mine!

I had an enormous bold jumping spider jump onto my arm when I soaked her hiding spot while power washing bus shelters. When I say arm, I mean right below the shoulder, and she looked rather upset I flushed her out.

Beautiful creature
