Hey! What happened to the David Dempsey S30V knife pics out here?

So now we are a bunch of squalling kids? And you are our parent? Boy, I never thought I would see that kind of condescending statement come from you Spark.

Letting you know our feelings about the things that are happening with BladeForums should not be considered the whining of small children. We have every right in the world to complain about things that we don't agree with. If you don't have the time to listen to those complaints then so be it. If my input is only welcome here when it is positive please let me know. If you would rather I take any complaints I have to email or private message I would be glad to do so, but when I disagree with something that is being done here I will continue to let the powers that be know so.

couldnt have said it better myself Keith. So now not only is the subject of why it was ONLY Davids post being avoided, but we are expected to not question the reasoning behind it lest we be 'called down' by our 'parent'???

This reminds me of a song....."It's my forum and I'll do what I want to, do what I want to, do what I want to.......

Sorry, that's not the song.... "It's my party and I'll cry if I want to. cry if I want to..........

We will just have to sit back and smile at this whole situation. At least we have something new to rant about. Next week we can move on to something else.

I've been thinking, again;) Everytime 1SKS advertises a new product they in return could be hurting their own sales. There are some guys out here that will see a new knife advertised for sale by 1SKS and say, "Hey, thanks for showing me that picture. I didn't know that knife existed. Now, let me search the internet and see who has the best price." You see? There are pros and cons to anyone posting an item out here if you get right down to it. It's part of the process. There are really no winners or losers just those who try to break even!
In the business world you try to cut out competition at your front door while new competition is being set up at your back door. It's unfortunate but yet reality.

I've thought about this a bit more too and have another 'twist' to add.

Why would you want the custom makers to be limited at all? what difference does it make if David posts some pics of his knives in the gallery and says they will be for sale at Blade? They [the makers] are the reason we [at least *I*] am here at BF. If you lay down a bunch of rules to make them uncomfortable some of them may leave [or just stop posting, etc...] that in turn is gonna HURT the forum...do you really want to runoff the custom makers? why not make it easier on them instead of harder...give them a break.

David probably figured he shouldnt post that pic and note that they were 'for sale' in the for sale forum as ppl would probably be emailing and trying to buy them off the forum [as that is my understanding of the makers for sale forum...a place for them to post stuff immediately available]. He probably avoided the Custom forum as almost every post there that has a picture in it gets moved here [the gallery]....so....it just makes sense.....post it in the gallery....but no. here its selling and that isnt allowed either.

too many damm rules.

This is what I love about opinions; everyone has them. Your entitled to yours, but sorry - the forums have rules and if they aren't followed, we take action. Period. The rules are pretty simple - post ads where they belong. It's when a bunch of nitpickers want to start defining if and when and how everything needs to be codified that things start breaking down - and this is exactly what you are trying to get us to do.

If a maker wants to advertise, they can buy a membership and / or advertise in the appropriate for sale forum, just like 1SKS does. I'm not singling out anyone - I clamp down on advertising whenever I see that it's somewhere it doesn't belong and my moderators have instructions to do the same. By not doing so, the paying KnifeMakers are being done a disservice by those who do pay - and if we do see it and let it slide, it's encouraging such behavior.

The Gallery was opened per request. If it's abused, we can just as easily shut it down. Take a look at your actions here and decide for yourself if you are helpingageshurting this situation with the pithy comments and such. The fact that we now have to add a moderator here disappoints me, as it's become apparent that this forum isn't self policing.

Keith, if you don't like the squalling kids example, my apologies, but sometimes this job is exactly the same. Someone has to be the parent, and that job falls to us - and just like you can't set fire to the drapes or eat candy all day and not brush your teeth, this forum has rules in place to keep it running smoothly. Actions have consequences.

The fact that we're even discussing this shows how much different this forum is from others that would just solve the problem by having 20 moderators per forum and slamming any dissent by banishing those who complain. Think about it. BladeForums.com is popular because we follow a simple formula, one that works. You are welcome to constructive criticism; just make sure it's constructive

Kevin

Kevin, you ahve to do what you think is right. This after all is your forum and I am just a guest. As you can tell from my post count, I like this forum very much. I do not want to see things get to the point where it is not as much fun to take part here as it is now.

As long as the people posting the pictures know what the guidelines are and so do the rest of us then that is what we will live with.

As the old adage goes Kevin, don't cut off your nose to spite your face. Keep BladeForums as user friendly as possible. I know you have to walk a fine line trying to keep everyone happy. Things like this do not make it any easier for you.

Hopefully when all is said and done the commercial aspects of BladeForums will not make it impossible for me to come here and look at all the great knives that I can now. That would be a real step backwords as far as I am concerned.

I understand that the makers that pay for a membership get angry when they see makers who have not antied up advertising their knives. They do not think that is fair and they are right. The cost of a knifemaker membership is only $30.00 and if having that membership would mean that they could keep posting pictures (advertising knives for sale in the proper forums, of course)then I think the cost is well worth it. Afterall I think that makers get way more than $30.00 worth of exposure on thid forum.

Sorry to have been such a pain in the ass, but when I see something I like changing I tend not to take it so well. You should have seen me when they introduced The New Coke.

Is this forum not "Knives For Sale"? Please read the above posts for why David's post was moved, you'll save everyone a lot of retyping.

Kevin

Actually, David has antied up for a knifemakers membership, or at least that what it says under his user name, so that can't be the reason the post was moved. I can't remember exactly how his post was worded, but it must have looked like blatant advertising to have been removed to the Back End like that.

Whatever the reasoning behind that situation, I hope that we don't start seeing a bunch of makers posts being moved/deleted.

Dex, what thoughts do you have about what is going on? Personally,I thought this forum was going along just fine, so obviosly I missed the whole reasoning behind us now requiring a moderator. Spark says we did a poor job of policing this forum. Somehow I missed that. Maybe I had blinders on and just wanted to see the pictures and ignored the commercial aspects of the posts.
