Yeah, seems like the season should be starting soon. Usually right when the leaves are coming out on the trees. Had a guy send me a picture of a basket full of them 3 weeks ago, but I think it was an old picture. No way the shrooms were out that early. I expect to be out and check a couple known spots this weekend. I really expect next week to hit them hard.
Here's the knife in question for those interested. One of my first practice knives. The blade and guard are Titanium I originally bought to make a sword with years ago. I know better now, but almost all of my knives have still have something Titanium in them. Be it guard, pins, liners, or just some titanium grinding dust in the epoxy. . .
anyone that has not hunted mushrooms should give it a try if there are any where you live. there are quite a few other kinds of mushrooms out there that are edible along with the sponges. here is an odd one that is called an inky cap mushroom. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coprinopsis_atramentaria
i have seen some others have found. a friend has filled up a few 5 gallon buckets already in the woods behind his house at the campsite we set up a few years ago. i'll probably skip going out this year.
Been out looking three times now in spots where we usually find them. Nothing yet, a friend said he found 2 on Tuesday. They just aren't out yet or it's a bad year for them here.
None in the woods where we normally find them. However, a neighbor found a dozen right outside his garage in the back yard. They looked old and dry. Just not a good year for them here.
