Need advise. I'm having problems installing a fine grit conditioning belt on a HF1x30.All other belts go on ok, except this one. I loosened the belt guide all the way and after I forcibly install the belt, the motor will not turn the wheels.I tried streching the belt but, still will not make motor turn. I wanted to use this belt for satin finishing blades. Rey

when in doubt, use violence ! :) I'd refrain from using force in the future :) Unless you want your stuff to break

(yes this post was no help) lol

Check the adjustment on the tension wheel (the one in back) it actually has a spring to provide tension. Mine was jammed and I was having similar problems. Take it apart and clean and maybe that will clear up your problem.

Thanks gentlemen for the advise and it is a scotch-brite belt. I will inspect and take apart the belt adjuster maybe it will work. Thanks again, Rey

I never got the scotch-brite belts to work on my 1x30.

I even tried pulling off the op guard and "pushing" the belt a little with my hands - didn't start.

I concluded it wasn't going to work.

I happens with some belts. HF 1x30 is not very precise or powerful machine. I had a few belts that were so tight that it would not start. "Pushing" the belt worked for me. I have all those plastic guards/covers removed of course. Just be careful when doing this, 1/3 HP is not much, but enough to damage your hand.
