HF Mini mill as a drill press

Hey guys, need a couple measurements!!

First off,whats the t-slot size on your mini mill's. i doubt my larger clamp set will work on this one.i need t-slot size and screw size. i'm ordering a belt drive conversion kit today and figure i'll order 6 t-slot and screws to hold down my fixture plate!

Also,whats the exact table dimensions,i'm going to cover the entire table,so i need to make up a plate.And lastly, whats the table travel?? if i cover the whole thing,how much can i surfacfe in an inexable end mill??

Would appreciate any help from you owners out there :)
 
Guys,i got one of these so called "new in box".everything appears new,but i have no power. flip up the safety switch and lights turn on,fan turns on but when i turn speed dial theres nothing.WTF could i be looking at??

fuse is good,all wiring is connected..,so what could it be?
 
Has anybody seen the video by Jose Rodriguez: "Milling on the Drill Press"?

Looks very interesting and with some time and effort a small drill press could be turned into a decent milling machine.

Just a question guys.

Once you factor in the belt conversion, the piston and the column brace...are there any other comparable products out there that would already have those features and be within the same price range (HF purchase cost plus upgrade costs)?

Ok,i noticed that as soon as i turn the speed control on the overload light turns on.any ideas guys??
 
I don't know what to tell you on that. Mine works if I plug it in a 110 outlet. I have noticed that once I turn it on after lifting up the lid for the green power light to come on that once I run it even if I shut it off at the dial I'll turn around sometimes and notice the cutter and chuck rotating just ever so slowly until I lock down the lid to cut off the power. That is the only real quirk mine has. Wish I could help you.

I am assuming that the spindle turns freely.

The reset for the over load light is to simply turn off the speed control and start it again. I read somewhere that if this does not work, it may be a bad controller board.

Yes,the spindle tyrns freely....ish.it is a bit tight with some drag.but i did'nt get any of the spanner wrenches ect with it.to loosen things off properly.could a tight spindle be overloading it?
 
Some drag is normal. It's just the gears engaging. I'd call the company you bought it from and claim it as DOA. It also should have come with all the tools needed to assemble and adjust the mill. Who did you buy it from if you don't mind me asking?
 
Return is not an option for me.i baught it as (nib) from an e-bay seller.he apparently baught it and never even used it as t was a cnc convert project he did'nt get around to.it appears un used..,other then this issue.i wanted to find out first if it was my boneheaded error before tearing his head off.
 
Upon opening up the control board,i quickly realized that a part is broken off!! anyone know what this is,where it goes and what to do :)

That looks like a transformer and it looks like somebody has bypassed it (white/black going to black/black). That would likely take out the variable speed. Have you tried turning the variable speed knob all the way to max?

There are 7 screw down connectors, the first two on the left - are they jumpered together? I wonder if that was originally the output to go to the black/black.

Being that this is variable speed, is it a DC motor? if it is a DC motor and he's got AC going into it, that could be the problem.
 
Well, the PO didn't do what I thought but if the transformer came off the board it will have to be resoldered.
 
Theres no way i can re solder these tiny points!! if i can get the other prongs out i'll just order a new one!

if i were to attemp to solder,i'd be more worried about correctly assembling the darn board!
 
It looks to be only the screw down terminals you'd have to be concerned with and they look like they are well marked although I can't really tell what those yellow tabs say; if they are not unique, just use masking tape and mark them yourself and make a drawing or take a couple of good pics in macro mode.

I only see the two input leads so I've no idea how that transformer is tapped for output, sort of looks like a long thin plug on the board but I can't tell.
