hg le scalloping...

mark,

you apparently received the special "who needs thumb skin?" model.

Nothing sends a clearer message that someone has messed with the wrong guy more than a bloody stump where your thumb used to be!!!!. . .

If it turns out that you actually like the skin on your thumb, then please return it and give us the opportunity to make it to your liking.

I raise my bloody thumb stump to you and yours  . . . (scary huh?)

let's drink!!!! :d

Mark,
Keep this one (it's a "Limited" Limited Edition) and buy another without the special thumb remover.

Mine are the wicked sharp version,,,,,,, Kinda like owning a *Limited* Limited edition,,,,, :D ,,,,,, and being a mechanic, the 1/4 inch of callous on my thumb keeps it from becoming detatched,,,,lmao

supposed to be spine jimping, but mine are too aggressive for my delicate hands.

just a novel turn on an old concept id guess. maybe they were a design feature requested for the mil run.

i think they look pretty cool too.

What is the reason for those scallops?

I really hate to sound like a negative nacy but,
I have no idea why they would make such aggressive thumb grooves(cutters).

They look Great, kinda industrial looking, but they look real good.

I love my right thumb, and never needed grooves as a meatcutter, so I won't need these deep grooves.
If I sound disappointed its because they are on the new SAR4 as well:(

I'm Sorry to complain. But hope these industrial grooves will not be on many Busse knives in future.

A sanding block,,,,, and a few different grits of sandpaper would easily take the sharpness out of the grooves,,,,, going right up to 1500 grit for a nice polish,,,, and no evidence of the slight mod performed!!!!!!

I agree. If they were moved out onto the spine of the blade, one position forward, they would be very useful. Kind of kills it for me where they are now.

well i have been tossing this one around for a couple of hours now and i haven't been able to get the thumb grooves to do anything but give me traction. i suppose if your sat there and sawed your thumb with them it would hurt, so put your thumb on the other side.

in any event they would be easy to dull or break the edge if it bothered you.

me, i like them, they work fine.

Hurt ! I think if you sat there and sawed your thumd with them you may have one less thumb:p

If you say they don't bother your thumb, and you've been using one for a couple of hours i trust what you say Skunk:thumbup:
I think the close up macro shots have been fooling me into thinking they may be more aggressive than they are.

So long as the edges are not sharp they would offer good purchase.....which is an asset more than a negative....if the knife has rounded NM treatment the scallops could also offer that bit more purchase for use with a ferro rod given that the spine is rounded.

All told it seems a good feature to me....

The macro shots probably do have that effect after looking at both types for a bit. I guess the only way to decide is to buy one :D
If it passes muster fer Skunk, I'm sure it's good.

Mine are pretty dang sharp, too. I like the idea but the execution ended up a little bit rough. I like the grooves on the spine of my small classic Sebenza. They're not harsh but add just a touch of traction. I have a Koster bushcraft with grooves but those ones are pretty sharp too.

ill probably end up doing exactly that.

but because they are so close to the scales, it's going to be a pain.

i like em, just need them rounded a bit.
