I may have asked this years ago but its been a while and there's some new blood here, so does anyone have info on axes stamped HGB? See photo for stamp. Double diamonds with that in one and 1897, which is presumably the date, in the other. Came in a box of axes from somewhere northeast if memory serves. I've never been able to find anything about who might have made it or where it came from. I like the shape, it doesn't fall quite into any of the standard patterns.

There's a pattern of oxidation that may be a little deceptive with that G. I'm wondering if that's a S, as in HSB. Hubbard Spencer Bartlett. But I'm not sure about the diamond stamps and if that matches. Anyway it's a guess.
Good catch.
The date inside diamond stamps makes me think it was produced by Robert Mann (AATco) for HSB (no proof, just gut feeling)

Huh, I'll be... The oxidation is in a tough spot to be sure. Looked and looked again and I'm still not convinced it's an S, but I don't think it's a G either. U? O? Maybe it is an S. The world may never know. But it sure looks like some of the axes in those catalogs. Which, by the way, damn those are nice! Did not realize those were on the archive. Need some high speed and a couple days to browse those.

It's HUB I have the same axe HUB in one diamond & a date in the other. I don't know anything else about it but I also saw one on worth point
I believe HUB in first diamond stands for Hubbard & Co Pittsburgh, Pa (owned by AA&TCo) and the other diamond is manufacturing date
