HI: "another viillage model" = ??

I think in reality a Dhankuta is what any kukri that can't be classified under a specific style is called. ;) :D ;)

Thomas,

Finally. Confirmation of my memory of what text & pic goes together.

This:
sdk1144.jpg

"Army Gorkha Dagger :- This dagger is also known as Gorkha Khukri and has been widely used by Gorkha Regiment of British Soldiers in World War I and II. Till date this dagger is used in Indian Army."
from Syndicate Armory website.

Still doesn't really give us a definite name for the style.

For me, I guess it's just my pug khuk.

Looks more like the "Sherpa style" that is seen on unc Bill's avatar. Might be easier to find in the crest of H.I.

The Avatar khukri is actually a small Salyan.

And as far as the 5 ddean posted on the first page of this thread ( one khuk posted first, then separated by a paragraph from a group of four more, the second khuk from the top of the 4 pics is pure chainpuri in style although the wooden scabbard ( another tipoff it's a chainpuri ) is decorated in dhankuta fashion.

Since both the kothimoda and dhankuta appear to be distinguished primarily by scabbard decoration, we'll have to get the word fom uncle and JP if that one is a:

1) chainpuri
2) dhankuta, a
3) chainpuri-dhankuta/dhankuta-chainpuri
or
4) something else altogether.

What will be interesting will be finding out if Uncle an JP can agree on an answer.

This is the kind of thing that turns khukuri lovers into full blown Kooks! Going outside now to howl at the moon. Whether it's there or not.

You are right Rusty. For some reason I had it stuck in my mind that I'd was a sherpa style kuk.

De Nada>

But this is an opportunity to beg for anyone who sees or find a Sherpa model to snatch it up and send it to Uncle. Or at least take a bunch of good closeup pictures. The Sherpa style has a heavy style buttplate much like a cloven hoof on either side of the butt's center, and a central depression between them that the tang fits into and is held in place with a "Z" clip or spring of some kind.

Uncle has been searching for a Sherpa style khuk for years in any shape, to no avail. If one doesn't surface soon to be used as a pattern by the kamis, the Sherpa style may be lost forever. So please be on the lookout for one.
