HI Black Friday Sales Starts Now!

I just looked, I have two Kismet Practical Hunters, one I bought directly from Kismet himself. Apparently one of the first and made by BURA. The second also made by BURA was gifted to me in one of Steely's random acts of kindness. It worked out well since his was well used but never abused.
The one from Kismet was mint and is still mint and will always be mint. One is pre Uncle Bills passing so no UB. Little bitty knives but a huge part of my accumulation.
So I have one to play with and one to admire or have for show and tell.
It tried to take a picture with my phone but it didn't work, I'll take a shot with the real camera.
They are very close to the Sarge but rounded at the tip and the back strap is sharp where the sarge is flat.

Definitely close cousins or direct descendants. My 2006 Bura KPH has bevelled backstrap but it isn't sharpened, just a thinned point profile to penetrate joints easier. My Kumar Sarge has the flat back and blade is longer with slightly more belly. Not sure whether the variation is intentional evolution into a second knife or one of those details that fades with time and new kamis. Either way I like the new style Sarge also (can always file the back into a false edge if wanted). Below are some threads discussing the early HI KPH's and referring to them as "Sarge"

Kis wanted to name the knife "Sarge" because it's an honest, hard-working knife. I agree.

I was honored, and thrilled recently, when Kismet sent me the original Sarge knife (originally named Kismet's Practical Hunter) to copy and add to my line. Many of you know that Sylvrfalcn tutored my knifemaking (along with many of you great gentlemen I've been lucky to have met here at the Cantina). I've actually always loved looking at the pics of this knife, and being that its named after Sarge, I'm really happy to be working on it. I was very excited just to get to see the knife in person, and heft it. Bill, you did a really good job on it. I've spoken to Yangdu and gotten her OK on making it, and on posting this thread. . . .

The rural route carrier showed up today with a wondrous knife...the "one-knife" for me, I think.

I'm a meat hunter. As much as I love various blades I have, and have seen, I don't "collect" knives. Sometimes, just the small variety I have annoys me because I have to rotate them to feel justified in having so many.

I think those days are done. Fiddleback Forge, Andy Roy's hangout, took a crude design I'd done years ago, which had subsequently become a 200-ish run of HI knives...and has created, or re-created a classic Practical Hunting knife.

I just love the handle (hugely important to me), the execution of the blade shape with its various bevels for not just field dressing a whitetail, but processing it, as well, and the synthesis of artistry, history, function and substance it incorporates.

The original had a cut-off spoon handle as a finger-guard. Fiddleback (at least this one) has a wrought iron bolster, substantially protecting the hand as it grips the walnut slabs on the serious full tang blade. The blade is astonishingly sharp, and the false edge is perfect for separating the legs and joints for quartering and processing.

Right now, it is going to go with me in the home-made SARGE sheath, where, for all its beauty, it fits quite naturally.

It was made to work.

Well by golly that sure makes it sound like they are one in the same or an evolution.

I thought the Sarge was named after somebody and was it's own entity.

The back straps on mine are also kind of a false edge. One is pretty sharp, the other not so much.

Thankfully Yangdu had a second Garuda available. Look forward to trying it out

Apparently, I have a KPH which is a near-doppleganger of your Bura KPH, Bawanna. It almost looks like a Tanto blade!
I thought I had a 'special one', and it is...but yours is really similar.
One of my all-time favorite designs. That-said, I really love the HI belt knives. The YCS Karda I have and the Rusty SD are OUTSTANDING!

The Hmong knife I was fortunate enough to snag from this offering arrived yesterday. It's really sweet.
And probably the nicest perfect triangle box I've ever received, not a ding or dent or scratch anyplace.
I brought it into work for show and tell, (the knife, not the triangle box) as usual and it's very well received.

The handle is a perfect fit for me and I love the fact that it's a little different. Keeper for sure.

Can't remember if George or Cul got the one after this but you'll dig it I'm sure.
It was George.

I received mine yesterday as well! A superb work of art! What a nice belly it has!
