Guys I gotta tell you, the only thing I'm fighting over here is boredom. The mission we were sent to do had pretty much evaporated by the time we got here. None of the big dogs thought things would move as fast as they did, but something in my gut told me all the "trouble spots" were going to fall lickety split in the face of superior tactics and firepower. General Franks is a smart fellow, getting the troops into Baghdad quickly took away any option of Saddam's boys using chemicals, too close, would have slimed their own guys. Kind of like fighting a spearman with a sword, you want to parry and close quickly to take away his reach advantage. Once they were in, they were in. Most of the people still causing trouble aren't even Iraqis, they're irregulars from other countries in the region. They won't last long, folks in towns and villages are letting them know they're not welcome, and our guys are helping more than a little in that matter.
Yup, the show's just about over over here, and as soon as we can get our stuff loaded up we'll be headed someplace else, probably home, maybe back to Afghanistan. I'm thinking next time I unpack my duffel bags and hang up my "battle rattle", it'll be for good. The thought of being a civilian again kind of intimidates me, I can't lie about that, but I'm kind of looking forward to it.
